From the heat of the BBQ to the smoking hot talent of Justin Jay, as he returns to the feathery fold with his latest release. The youngest of VonStroke's proteges, the 22 year old producer continues to build on the promise shown on a string of heavy hitting Dirtybird releases (Femme Fatale, Static, Instincts, Le Voyou.)  With all of his tracks created on the same college-dorm studio set up, it seems fitting that we bring you the last from those late night bunker sessions and a brace dedicated to the end of his studies and the start of the party.

'Mom I Graduated' launches in to life with the sassily titled ‘Hit It.’  Spring loaded beats adorn an eerie, vocoder-aided atmosphere, before double claps on the beat turn the track into an intensified stomper. The drop descends into thick sub bass, chopped up vocal samples and chiming, echoing percussion around its half time rhythm. This is big!!

Rain Dance starts life out of earshot.  A progressive melodic flurry gradually enters in to range through a mist of pitter patter FX touches, while ascending woodblocks bring us to the vocal drop and a thumping kick drum -“I’m gonna make it rain” - Booty aesthetics with a slowed tribal rhythm and swathes of sub bass leak through the speakers. A second summer anthem from the young Californian.

Whilst electronic music as a community and an industry continues to adjust admirably to the Catch-22 nature of the internet, one camp that remains under duress is compilations. With major distributors now selling mixes, the majority of artists or labels regularly pushing out promo-packed free podcasts and ever more streaming options to watch DJs tear up booths and carve new niches all from the comfort of your hangover-recovery-room, the compilation finds itself at an increasingly crowded party. That's not to say there aren't exceptions to this rule with a number of outposts still seeing their releases able to separate themselves from the rest of the marauding pack.

One such series if undoubtedly Toolroom's 'Toolroom Live' series, in which the label bring together three of the scenes fastest rising artists and producers to showcase the full spectrum of the labels musical space. Taking the helm this time around, Amtrac, Mendo and Filterheadz join the party with each DJ serving up a groove based helping of danceable house numbers.

'Get Real' is the new project from legendary producers, Green Velvet & Claude VonStroke.
The pair, hailing from Chicago and Detroit, headed out on the road together for a string of shows at the tail end of 2015. Get Real was born and VonStroke was soon heading to Green Velvet’s Chicago studio to work on new music. Next up with their debut release on Hot Creations’ sister label Emerald City are former college roommates Josh Taylor and Justin Jay. An energetic track full of bounce and edgy samples, Pussy Pop is an ideal addition to the label’s young venture. Bringing his signature dance floor rhythm, Jamie Jones has delivered high quality on the remix with a fun acompaniament to the original.
 
Josh Taylor began his musical career in his hometown of St Louis, Missouri. Starting out as an acoustic pop artist strumming at his ukulele and songwriting, his laid back attitude (and discovery of nightclubs) led him down a path of exploration through music genres. His unique approach to writing hooks and basslines is apparent across the board, from his band The Cozy Boys to his previous collaboration with Justin Jay on the exceptional Fantastic Voyage album.
 
In response to how the two of them came to collaborate, Justin answered “When we were roommates in college, Josh opened me up to the world of singing and songwriting through his jams on the ukulele while I started dragging him to clubs and warehouse parties. He inspired me to take a stab at my own singing/songwriting and I pushed him to try DJing/production.” 
 
The head of his own label Fantastic Voyage and one of the youngest producers to release on Dirtybird, Justin has already seen success that extends beyond his years. With an array of fruitful releases under his belt, the LA based producer/DJ has received support from the likes of Claude VonStroke and Disclosure, boasting “Future Star” recognition by the influential Pete Tong. Justin manifests his soul, funk and jazz routes in a forward-thinking manner that yields his unmistakable house tracks.

What's up Desert Hearts Family,

So excited to share with you an EP from our boy from Berlin, Andreas Henneberg, as he drops first solo outing on the label. Andreas has been a staple at Desert Hearts, crushing the festival more than a few times over the years while also releasing an EP from his side project The Glitz. Along the way he's been an steady contributor to our Family & Friends Compilations so we knew it was time for a proper EP. 

The title track "Password Invalid" is a hip hop infused anthem that's been rocking our parties over the last year. Just as the lyrics say, "the swag is automatic" and this track drips in attitude. The B-side "Gettin Freaky" has Andreas' signature sound all over it. Powerful analog synths pave the way for the ultimate funk blast halfway through the track. Finally, to round out the package, the remix is a bomb put together by RYBO and yours truly.

Do yourself a favor and if you can, catch Andreas Henneberg at this year's Desert Hearts Festival. He's one of my favorite DJs and an even better person.

Andreas Henneberg - Password Invalid (Mikey Lion & RYBO Remix)

The Croatian duo PEZNT pay homage to arguably the best meal of the day, 'Breakfast'. With vocals from Born I Music, Claude started playing it this Spring and the song quickly started to get the 'Birds on the hunt trying to find out what it is, hitting a fever pitch when he played it at the Oakland BBQ. As the original is already becoming a favorite, we enlisted Miami's ghetto house expert, Jesse Perez, to give it a flip and put his high energy beats and bass behind it.

PEZNT, Born I Music - Breakfast (Original Mix)

Lubelski and Wyatt Marshall band together yet again for a 3 track release titled Take A Trip.

The title track leads the release with magnetizing piano melodies flickering among the acid rubbed bass tones and vibrant percussion workings—inviting ears and feet to ‘Take A Trip’ as its name suggest.

’Wake U Up’ follows with wiggling analog bells, a sassy vocal, and rolling subs that’s a definite wake up call for any floor.

Finally, the two round out the EP with a more minimally charged tune, toting a subdued yet demanding sub bass and fluttering shudders of analog percussion culminating in a chugging and thrashing groove.
