ਸੂਹੀ ਲਲਿਤ ॥
Soohee, Lalit:

ਬੇੜਾ ਬੰਧਿ ਨ ਸਕਿਓ ਬੰਧਨ ਕੀ ਵੇਲਾ ॥
(ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਮਨ ਲਾਈ ਰੱਖਿਆ) ਉਹ (ਬੇੜਾ) ਤਿਆਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਉਮਰੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰੂਪ ਬੇੜਾ ਤਿਆਰ ਨਾਹ ਕਰ ਸਕਿਆ,
You were not able to make yourself a raft when you should have.

ਭਰਿ ਸਰਵਰੁ ਜਬ ਊਛਲੈ ਤਬ ਤਰਣੁ ਦੁਹੇਲਾ ॥੧॥
ਤੇ, ਜਦੋਂ ਸਰੋਵਰ (ਨਕਾ ਨਕ) ਭਰ ਕੇ (ਬਾਹਰ) ਉਛਲਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਤਰਨਾ ਔਖਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ; ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਅੱਤ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਸਕੇ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਨਿਕਲਣਾ ਔਖਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ।੧।
When the ocean is churning and over-flowing, then it is very difficult to cross over it. ||1||

ਹਥੁ ਨ ਲਾਇ ਕਸੁੰਭੜੈ ਜਲਿ ਜਾਸੀ ਢੋਲਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਹੇ ਸੱਜਣ! ਚੰਦ੍ਰੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਹ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖ, ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਚਾਰ ਦਿਨ ਦੀ ਖੇਡ ਹੈ ।
Do not touch the safflower with your hands; its color will fade away, my dear. ||1||Pause||

ਇਕ ਆਪੀਨੈ੍ ਪਤਲੀ ਸਹ ਕੇਰੇ ਬੋਲਾ ॥
ਜੋ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ (ਮਾਇਆ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਮੋਹ ਪਾਣ ਕਰਕੇ) ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਵਿਚ ਕਮਜ਼ੋਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-) ਪਤੀ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਅਨਾਦਰੀ ਦੇ ਬੋਲ ਨਸੀਬ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ;
First, the bride herself is weak, and then, her Husband Lord's Order is hard to bear.

ਦੁਧਾ ਥਣੀ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਫਿਰਿ ਹੋਇ ਨ ਮੇਲਾ ॥੨॥
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਪਤੀ-ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦੀ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਤੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਦਾ ਸਮਾ ਖੁੰਝਣ ਤੇ (ਜਦੋਂ ਨਾਮ-ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਬੇੜਾ ਤਿਆਰ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਸੀ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ।੨।
Milk does not return to the breast; it will not be collected again. ||2||

ਕਹੈ ਫਰੀਦੁ ਸਹੇਲੀਹੋ ਸਹੁ ਅਲਾਏਸੀ ॥
ਫ਼ਰੀਦ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ—ਹੇ ਸਹੇਲੀਓ! ਜਦੋਂ ਪਤੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸੱਦਾ (ਇਸ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਤੁਰਨ ਲਈ) ਆਵੇਗਾ, 
Says Fareed, O my companions, when our Husband Lord calls,

ਹੰਸੁ ਚਲਸੀ ਡੁੰਮਣਾ ਅਹਿ ਤਨੁ ਢੇਰੀ ਥੀਸੀ ॥੩॥੨॥
ਤਾਂ (ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਗ੍ਰਸੀ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦਾ) ਆਤਮਾ-ਹੰਸ ਜੱਕੋ-ਤੱਕੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ (ਇਥੋਂ) ਤੁਰੇਗਾ (ਭਾਵ, ਮਾਇਆ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਛੁੜਨ ਨੂੰ ਚਿੱਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰੇਗਾ), ਤੇ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਦੀ ਢੇਰੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਇਗਾ ।੩।੨।
the soul departs, sad at heart, and this body returns to dust. ||3||2||
