Never standing still or dwelling on past successes, GURU are back once again, taking us down yet another un-trodden path with their new release from Tony Romera. The young but highly acclaimed French producer keeps the energy cranked but injects “All I Want” with bags of ghetto-funk to create a vibrant and unique club strut.
Snapping rhythms and shuffling drums get us underway before a huge rolling bassline powers its way into the mix alongside lyrically fluid vocals. The bassline provides the backbone of the entire track, laying down the relentless forward momentum and a heavy, 4am warehouse vibe. As it throngs forward with the weight of a jumbo jet, the bass catches the dancefloor up in a swirl of mechanics and FX that sends the track into overdrive. Hip-hop style vocals add real flavor and character to the tune, just as ominous tones in the background bring the intensity and sense of drama.
GURU’s last three releases have really highlighted the dexterity of the label, all pushing a totally different sound but maintaining that astonishingly high quality. Tony Romera’s “All I Want” is another example of how GURU consistently takes things to the next level.

Guru Recordings revisit Lucky Date & Gregori Klosman’s summer hit “Evolution” with a new remix from hotly tipped Danish producer, Toby Green. Available as a free download, the deep and hypnotic remix twists the pair’s original into brand new territory whilst keeping it’s dancefloor-focused attitude.
Although pacey from the start, the remix sets off in a deep and restrained fashion with a fluid bassline and jacking beats providing the backbone initially. But before being allowed to settle into the hypnotic groove, futuristic FX and firing synths begin to ignite and create a crazy, hedonistic soundscape. As the tension becomes too much, the remix spills over into unadulterated explosive house complete with floor shaking basslines, churning beats, rapid rhythms and shouted vocals. Merging highly energized elements of house, techno, electro and EDM, it is an intoxicating melting pot of styles that gives a snapshot of the health of modern electronic music.

Gregori Klosman’s Guru imprint continues its rich vein of form as Miami’s DJ Sub Zero is next to take flight. Bringing the party vibe with plenty of swagger and bucket loads of personality, “Girl (Like That)” is a deep, groovy workout that ignites every dancefloor it spills its guts over. A bona fide club bomb, this one has got some serious legs. Dancing legs.

Driven by an underground, highly addictive bassline and wild, crunching synths, the track has a tough backbone that is complemented by the ghetto-funk vocals and tightly worked groove. Despite its power and energy, “Girl (Like That)” keeps a lid on things, exploring a funky, deeper, more visceral attitude instead of spilling over into frenzy. Because of that, taking it to the edge and teetering there, “Girl (Like That)” has an innate edginess that makes it such a compelling track. This is definitely one that deserves to be cranked up to 11.

Fast rising Indian producer Sartek is at it once again, dropping another huge club bomb for Gregori Klosman’s Guru. The imprint has been a staunch admirer of the New Delhi native during the early stages of his career and it’s already not hard to see why. Every time this man gets behind the mixing desk the fires are fuelled and a jet-­pack explosion of modern house music powers through the speakers. Like his last effort on Guru, “Dopamine” Sartek finds the perfect balance between the intense and the melodic with “Back to the Future.” After floating, jangling piano keys and emotive synths initiate the track in almost laidback surroundings, all of a sudden ferocious basslines and kicking drums jolt in and attack the central nervous system. But before it hammers you into submission, the track breaks down and then opens up into airy melodies and what turns out to be, a false sense of calm. Before you know it, the throttle is pulled and we are right back into full swing. Devastating stuff!
