I am so happy and honored to share the fifth Neptunian Influence mix and the first in our summer series. Abundant in the dark and the dreamy, feast your ears and imagination on this aquatic soundscape made by the one and only Sassmouth. 
 
Sassmouth is founder of the record label ‘god particle,’ a resident for both Planet Chicago at Smartbar and As You Like It in San Francisco and a member of the Naughty Bad Fun Collective. In addition to planning and playing the annual Industry Brunch during Movement weekend in Detroit this past May, we were also lucky to have her throw down at our first Neptunian Influence party, a modest pre-festival meetup and brunch that holds a special history of love and friendship. It should be noted that both Sass-sets were highlights of the weekend! Sassmouth excels in playing a diverse range of sounds from house to electro to techno and beyond as you’d expect a super DJ to do, and she always captivates the dancefloor with raw, groovy energy. 
 
We met at a warehouse in LA over a year ago and I’ve considered her a friend, mentor and inspiration ever since. However, our heightened tastebuds for electro and “almost birthday twin” qualities have brought us to this point. Neptune’s effects on libras are known to be strong :)

From Intangible Cat: "Title track from the album "Beat Wings in Vain." The piano touch in this piece slows my breathing down. The saxophones join in and keep leading you deeper into a dream where  beautiful atmospheric sculptures form in this piece, a bit like watching clouds develop from a giant oak tree into a wave crashing on a mountain top. True to form, the song climaxes in a sort of 'gushing cloud' experience, where the sky turns multicolored and the clouds smile at you. Then the clouds part ways into the clear night sky."

Gushing Cloud - Witness

Gushing Cloud is a musical artist currently residing in Chicago IL centered on the often-electronic and colorfully experimental beat-based music of Cory Bengtsen (also known as Gus Kumo when playing live,) yet incorporating various collaborators both musical and performance art-based. Beginning to record on samplers in 2004, Gushing Cloud has developed to include many instruments and musical approaches, resulting in the most current release, Beat Wings in Vain, with its uniquely organic and emotional electronic music.

The notoriously unpredictable and lavish live shows have largely been the work of “Doggy P. Lips” (half of the experimental art duo Dog Hallucination), incorporating multiple video installations, dancing, costumes, and other methods meant to shake the audience out of its usual mode. Currently incorporating other rotating collaborators for live shows, Gushing Cloud continues to explore the blurring of lines between electronic and organic music, humor and sobriety, friendliness and leaving uncompromising impressions.

The homegrown label of friends Intangible Cat has released GC’s recordings and various other projects that include Bengtsen, such as Amalgamated and Rebekah’s Tape. Cory is also the baritone saxophonist in the avant-prog-rock group Lovely Little Girls.
