Zeal (Lexicon Mix)

Here is the mix played for the Silent Disco Squad "Dance Into Light" edition on May 4, 2014! 

Silent Disco Squad brings the transformational power of the dance floor into everyday moments by organizing massively public, participant driven Dance parties. Using mp3 players, smartphones, and headphones, all SDS participants groove outside in public spaces listening to the same music at the same time, transforming everyday moments into a Silent Disco Squad. 

SDS events are co-created by individuals submitting Dance tracks ahead of time. The organizer picks songs and uses the selection to make the crowd-sourced Dance mix. This results in a huge variety of genres and styles!

Originally conceived in a small hotel room in London, England several years ago, this piece has experienced many different iterations and through its long journey has appeared in both musicfirm and Gussin DJ mixes. This mix is the first official release and carries the listener through a melodic and haunting experience.

I wrote this track in one night in the musicfirm studio using Jesse's newly tuned acoustic guitar. With the little time that I had, the original recording had little mastering done.  I've polished it up, staying as true to the original as humanly possible - I couldn't remaster it without changing something, could I? :)

Sugarbush and the Sea

Rhythmic patterns and echoic sounds carry the listener through various stages of introspection. This one was inspired by my friends' recording of their daughter's heartbeat while still in the womb.

I would be lying if I didn't also attribute some of my inspiration to a favourite album of mine: one that begins and ends with a heartbeat. :)
