The London based artist, known for his mental sets mixing pure, trippy sounds and hard techno hitters, founded his own label Perc Trax back in 2004. Defining Uk and Industrial since then and now.

Forging acclaim for their fiercely unrelenting sound production, New Frames are no stranger to shattering the parameters and caveats within electronic music with their masterfully curated approach to chaos. The collaborative project of Berlin-based David Frisch and Mathis Mootz (aka The Panacea) sees the duo engineer their hybridised palette of maximalist yet modular techno music in both their DJ and live sets. Pulling influence directly from dance floors both contemporary and from raving’s genesis, New Frames’ all encompassing signature of ferociously layered sonic weaponry promises to leave no stragglers in their wake.

Presenting their debut double long player ‘Scherben’ – the body of work demonstrates the pair’s eclectic merging of cataclysmic pure and raw techno, ominous vocals and distorted sound design across the eight track LP. Nimble mixing interbreeds New Frames’ quintessential cacophony of instrumentation, laminated with bombastic drum-beats and carnal vigour. Additionally with appearances from Eva Vuillemin, fellow BITE Records protagonist Omon Breaker as well as label co-founder Phase Fatale, the album comes as a natural progression following two previous EP releases on BITE as well as featuring on the labels fifth anniversary compilation record ‘Shredding Skin’ .

Furthering the duo’s pursuit of polarity within their melodic terrain, the album follows the structural composition of a mixtape, robust in its opening, experimental yet focused, unpredictable yet precise. Rhythmic tracks flesh out the hardware essence of the LP with the pair’s signature hypnotic and commanding vocals ensuring New Frames’ dancefloor destroyer warranty.

Previously gracing lineups for venues including Berghain, Khidi, Tresor and Distillery,  the devastating floor-fillers of Scherben personify rave dance floors past and present directly from the cold walls of the underground scene the pair have inhabited for collective decades. The LP projects New Frames’ tried-and-tested understanding and execution of nuanced production interchangeable from the dancefloor or for intense home-listening.

The Spectral iteration of the Ghostly 15 mixes comes courtesy of Derek Plaslaiko (who recently completed a grueling 12 hour Boiler Room out of his home in Berlin: http://boilerroom.tv/recording/derek-plaslaiko-12-hour-set/). Some words from Plaslaiko on the emergence of Spectral Sound & the mix he has curated below:

"I met Sam Valenti IV in the later years of the 90's just after he started the Ghostly International label. I feel like I almost instantly connected with Ghostly due to the music, but also because of the asthetic. Sam & I had more than a couple conversations about labels like Factory and 4AD and how the art was synonymously as important as the music it accompanied. I couldn't agree with him more!

As Ghostly grew, I think Sam realized that the more dancefloor-oriented music should almost have it's own place. Enter Spectral Sound.

Spectral Sound often gets confused as Ghostly. For instance, I am considered a Spectral Sound DJ, yet there are plenty of times that promoters end up simply putting Ghostly International next to my name. This doesn't offend me or anything, but the labels are quite different, and equally as important in my eyes. Spectral went on to help pave the way for what would end up being the "minimal" sound embraced first in Berlin, and then the rest of the world. However, I wouldn't just pin Spectral down as a "minimal" label. I feel Spectral (as well as Ghostly) is a great example of a dance music oriented label putting out music they like regardless of what genre it falls under. House, Acid House, Deep House, Tech House, Hard Techno, Deep Techno, Minimal Techno... you can find all of this and a lot more within Spectral's vast catalog.

So, Sam has asked me to pick 15 of my favorite Spectral Sound tracks and I gotta say... this list is a really hard one to make! How do I chose only 15 cuts of this incredible catalog? And even if I did, how much of it would be occupied by tracks produced by Matthew, Tadd and Todd? To pick 15 favorites from just those 3 artists alone would be a difficult challenge, as they are easily 3 of my favorite producers of dance music out there! So, I tried to limit my picks of them to each of their project names.

I had been asked to to the mix compilation that accompanied the Spectral Sound Vol 2 compilation that came out in 2008. So, there are MANY of my favorite Spectral cuts on there (you can find it on Spotify). I mention this only because there are a few repeats in this list, but I just couldn't help myself because I still play those tracks to this day.
