The 34th release on microCastle sees the long awaited re-issue of Grammy nominated producer Barry Jamieson's 'Stars'. The seminal track was originally recorded in 2002 shortly after Evolution disbanded and was subsequently released in 2004 under the alias of Invisible Inc. The track gained huge popularity when Sasha began opening many of his sets with the ambient version well over a year before the official release. The storied UK DJ also featured 'Stars' as the closing track on his famed 'New Emissions of Light and Sound' DVD soundtrack which saw Sasha, Barry and Charlie May win best original score at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival in the Extreme Sports film category. It's irresistible and emotionally charged melodies made it one of the most sought after pieces of music at the time and was accompanied by several club interpretations for the official release. John Digweed was also a huge supporter of the record and featured the 'Unbroken' Mix in many of his live and radio sets. For the reissue we have included the original ambient and original club versions which have been previously unavailable along with brand new remixes from label artists Charlie May and Guy J.

Barry Jamieson - Stars (Guy J Remix) [microcastle]

Danny Bonnici and Luke Chable are very familiar with each other's studios. In 2003, they collaborated to produce the ebullient classic ‘Ride,’ arguably the standout release in underground dance that year. Almost a decade passed before they rekindled their partnership, resulting in ‘Colours,’ a delightful 2010 release that wears its whimsical heart on its charming sleeve. Fast forward to 2024, and Balance is proud to re-release this gem with a fresh round of remixes, featuring Dutch star Alex O’Rion and a breakbeat re-rub by Danny Bonnici.

If ‘Ride’ epitomized care-free mid-00’s prog, ‘Colours’ is imbued with the spirit of 2010. It’s a radiant drive atop a sunlit melody and kaleidoscopic tones that will embed itself deep into your psyche. Drawing inspiration from the more vogue-ish releases of that year, the brilliance of ’Colours’ lies in its light-hearted clarity: a stonking drum section and a melodic motif that lingers in you like a pleasant memory. Today, ‘Colours’ feels as nostalgic as it's vital; a love letter to a time we never knew would pass us by, or at worst, an invocation of a pre-Covid era that seems a million miles away.

Danny Bonnici revisits his breakbeat roots with a delightful re-rub, paying homage to an era when progressive breaks reigned king. Skittering snares and shuffling hats play off each other; the percussion contrasting sharply against the consistently moving bellow of the Hoover-like bass. Keeping the original melody front centre, it eventually explodes post-breakdown into a dizzying arpeggiated variation. If you want to know why Danny Bonnici is considered a breakbeat don, look no further.

Dutchman Alex O’Rion extends his streak of platinum productions with a refined update. By using warmer tones to soften the edges, the energy is burnished with more tranquil textures. The melody is framed by warm risers and smart fx that engage in playful interaction, whilst a casual bass line dances in complete flow with the melody. All the parts add up to a joyous progressive union - a beautiful organic dance that never feels contrived.

The four track EP released in April of 2014 found the storied UK producer showcasing some of the most diverse and poignant work of this career. Now to kick off 2015 we see four brand new interpretations courtesy of Dubspeeka, Jamie Stevens, Pedram and Petrels.

Press text: The lone interpretation of 'Some Break' is provided by microCastle label artist Jamie Stevens. The Aussie producer is now making his fourth appearance on the label and first of 2015. Jamie has achieved an amazing level of critical and commercial success over the course of his career. As one of Australia's most talented and sought after music producers he has proven his skill in professional sound design, music scores for film and contemporary dance music. As the founding member of Infusion, the much-loved Australian electronic live act, he's left his mark around the globe, headlining some of the biggest and most respected clubs including; Fabric- London, Pacha - Buenos Aires, Womb- Tokyo and festivals such as Glastonbury, Coachella, Roskilde and Creamfields in Moscow, Brazil, UK and Argentina. In his home country, Infusion has received 2 prestigious ARIA awards for their work.  More recently Jamie's discography has been highlighted by a contribution (Prism) to John Digweed and Nick Muir's 'Versus’ album along with 'The Wonder of You', released in 2013 on microCastle, which turned out to be one of his career best pieces of work.  It earned a #1 chart placing in both Tech House and Electronica on Beatport and was widely regarded as one of the year's best releases.  Always a magical remixer Jamie has reinvented the sparkling, melodic 'Some Break' into a stomping techno beast of a record. Already played by Jeremy Olander & Guy J at the VH1 Supersonic festival it looks to be one of Jamie's biggest techno productions of the year.

One of 2014's most sought after remixers was undoubtedly Dubspeeka. The Bristol based producer is perhaps best known for being one half of the much loved Kosheen project which yielded one of electronic music’s finest ever records in ‘Hide You’. The Dubspeeka production moniker has already amassed an impressive discography with releases on Bedrock, Drumcode, Ideal Audio, Suara and his own Skeleton imprint. For his '7 Hours' interpretation Dubspeeka has stripped the beastly original right down and overhauled it into a romping techno workout. It's tension filled drive is offset with sombre synths and vibrant electronics which pierce the atmosphere with electric flair.

Clubsonica Records opens the fall season by welcoming Bemannte & Bruder back to the label for a new EP. Hailing from Ireland, the Bemannte & Bruder duo first emerged in 2021 with a series of releases via longstanding UK imprint Stripped Recordings. Armed with a timeless progressive sound, Bemannte & Bruder were immediately tipped as a name to watch. Clubsonica has also become a comfortable home for the duo, with an EP and remix project released across the last twelve months. Now, following last years well received ‘Amongst the Stars' EP, Bemannte & Bruder make a welcome return to Clubsonica with ‘Summer Nights', alongside remixes from Antrim and Gux Jimenez. 

Noted for their timeless style, it is the title selection which leads the release off and only furthers that narrative. Tight kick drums and neatly manicured percussion provide a DJ friendly intro, as rippling bass tones and airy pads add depth and character. Cruising effortlessly across the first act, it's a panoramic arp which eventually steals the air, flowing through tasteful modulation while pushing energy into the main break. The duo's elusive vision shines across the interlude, as they maintain a perfect balance of emotive musicality with a tasteful sense of space, a contrast which an astute dancefloor will appreciate, before smoothly shifting gears into a kaleidoscopic finale. Selection two 'Mindbender' finds Bemannte & Bruder showcasing a more adventurous side of their repertoire. Once again created with pristine production quality, it's a free-flowing exchange of punchy grooves, percolating arps and clustered synth mutations which provide a sturdy backbone. The main break proves to be the highlight however, elevating mood through further modulation and astral artifacts, all while maintaining an underlying sense of flow for a wonderfully warped conclusion. Rounding out the three originals are the alluring qualities of 'Bigger Than Us', a track where the duo aims squarely at a melodic dancefloor. Bemannte & Bruder craft an aesthetic that is hopeful, groovy and undeniably musical, one that balances a loud-soft dynamic perfectly. Following a driving first act, it's an amalgamation of billowed piano's and holographic synths which co-ax beautifully across the break, before reverent textures meet explosive beats and swing heavy basslines for a retro-radiant finale.

Returning to the label for the lone interpretation of ‘Summer Nights' is Antrim. In what has been a storied career, Antrim has been prolific across the first three quarters of 2024. The Hernan Cattaneo supported ‘La Fin Du Monde' and ‘Meeting Point' would get the year underway in style, a release which found the Cordoba resident returning to Clubsonica, where he carries a long creative partnership. Now, Antrim returns to Clubsonica with an emotive take on ‘Summer Nights'. The Cordoba resident shows a deft hand and a strong sense of personality, as warm kick drums and fluid rhythms become smudged by sweeping sonics and emerging melodies. A light and airy first act, one which sets up a break of rolling pianos and wistful sonics, to carry out what is sure to be a rejuvenating dancefloor experience.

The release concludes with Gux Jimenez with the lone interpretation of ‘Bigger Than Us'. Hailing from Colombia, Gux Jimenez has been a fixture of his country's electronic music movement for over a decade. Best known for his emotive take on the progressive genre, he has showcased his music via trendsetting landing spots such as Mango Alley,, UV and his own OzLand imprint, while earning support from world class DJs Above & Beyond and Armin Van Buuren. Now, Gux returns to Clubsonica with a creative rendition of ‘Bigger Than Us'. Opting for a techier and more stripped down take on the track, Gux further fragments the main motifs over a bed of tough beats, timely vocal samples and metallic melodies, for a less musically dominant, yet equally engaging version that's perfect for the more daring dancefloors out there.

Jody Barr returns to open Sudbeat’s 2025 schedule high on a wave of success.

Breaking onto the scene around a decade ago, Jody has built up a serious back catalogue on some high profile imprints such as LNOE, Balance and The Soundgarden, as well as support from elite players such as Sasha, Laurent Garnier and Hernan Cattaneo himself. 

His own label, Portable Minds has grown in statue since launch in 2016 allowing Jody and like-minded artists to release creative projects that buck current trends without fear.

Opening the EP, ‘Cherry Red’ bounces from the speaker. An uptempo percussive framewerk sets the scene as melodics ebb and flow. Frolicking bass notes playfully weave among the arps, creating a fun, summery vibe for these cold winter months. 

Next up, ‘Cordoba’ is presented in two distinct flavours. In original form is a patient, trancey mid-setter with bags of personality and a huge, epic breakdown,
while the Sierra Mix showcases Jody’s mastery of broken beats.

Bedrock_Underground Sound Of Miami features 10 exclusive tracks from some of Bedrocks favourite artists and some exciting new names to the Bedrock roster, in a DJ-friendly unmixed format.

We&#8217;ve been wanting to do a Miami sampler for the last few years now, showcasing some of the great artists we work with on the label but other projects and releases got in the way of letting us do this. However this year we have been very fortunate to be in a position where we not only had some amazing music but also some time to get this organised so we could do it properly. I have also been able to road test all of the tracks at gigs since the start of January and the reactions to the music has been amazing so it seemed perfectly apt to put a release together that we can focus on around Miami and the Bedrock showcase parties there. - John Digweed

As we head towards the month of March theres earnest debate on various noteworthy music sites about Miami WMC 2012, but there can be no doubt that there will be magical moments that will be talked about for months to come. The Bedrock showcase at Cameo (Thursday 22nd March) featuring John Digweed, Hernan Cattaneo, Guy J, Marco Bailey, Omid 16B, Henry Saiz, Denis A and Stelios Vassiloudis, will be an amazing party, as will John Digweeds extended set at the Bedrock and Creations party on Saturday 24th at The Vagabond in downtown Miami. Bedrock_Underground Sound Of Miami captures the essence of why electronic dance music is such an exciting prospect right now, showcasing the amazing underground talent, both established and new.

Take, Sirenize, the latest project involving Rowan Blades and rising star Dennis White (aka Thermal Bear on Traum). This duo never compromises, always staying true to the underground with a strict artistic ethos &amp; integrity, as opening track, Everybody, proves.

From ambient soundscapes, downtempo vocal tracks and slo-mo house, through to deliciously deep house, tech-house and acid grooves, the supremely exciting debut artist album from Greeces Stelios Vassiloudis, It Is What It Is on Bedrock, showed the world that variety is the spice of life. So its no wonder that Stelios makes two appearances here: flying solo on the inspired West and teaming up with sometime collaborator Sasse (aka Klas Lindblad from Finland) on Benedict. Sasses first releases came out on the legendary Sähkö/Puu as Freestyle Man and rightly are considered a milestone in the Scandinavian house sound. His Moodmusic and Sunday Music labels are highly respected worldwide, so his production skills are up there with the best, as Benedict shows.

Germanys Robert Babicz has a music career that already spans nearly two decades, comprising five albums and multiple singles. The mark of a true musical innovator, he continues to reveal his talent and skill as one of Europe&#8217;s most essential techno producers. His contribution here, Echo From The Past, is yet another stunning creation from this hero to many. 

Guy Js brand new track Shining (BEDGJDIGI01) and the hot remixes of tracks from his critically acclaimed 1000 Words album, have been setting floors alight since the start of 2012, so its no surprise that Nightstalker is yet another absolute gem. As one of the standout electronic artists in the world today, Guy J is at the forefront of a movement towards the melody-rich and emotionally charged roots of the house music spectrum. 

Canada&#8217;s Maher Daniel &amp; Casa (aka Mike Casa) are both upcoming, pivotal figures on the Montreal scene. Daniels remix of Tone Depth&#8217;s &#8216;Rumblefish&#8217; (Bedrock) was #1 on Beatport&#8217;s techno charts for over two and a half months, cementing a relationship with the label that sees Music, Machines &amp; Life introducing a very exciting vibe to the proceedings here. A low-slung, heavy hitting tech monster is the order of the day.

Hailing from Brazil, Wehbba is one of the latest additions to Brazil&#8217;s fine history of innovative techno producers. He made a big impression with his remix of Christian Smiths Flyertalk on John Digweeds Structures album, leading this dentist graduate, licensed diver and Jiu Jitsu fighter to have his debut track, Mammut included on Bedrock 12. Now, with the bouncy percussive beauty of Motone he makes an exciting, welcome return. 

If you&#8217;re talking about exciting underground producers it would be rude not to mention Igor Tchkotoua and Dan Duncan (aka Pig&amp;Dan), since 1999 their distinctive mixture of influences has given them a sound that is both innovative and easily recognizable. Their Sonic Society label and relationship with Sven Vaths Cocoon family have led to global respect for this dynamic duo. Teaming up with English ex-pat, Mark Reeve and Maltas Dean Demanuele has led to a truly international melting pot of hip-swinging, groovy rhythms on Machines.

Few French electronic music artists combine experience, avant-gardism and guaranteed success on dance floors as Electric Rescue (aka Antoine Husson) does. His distinctive brand of ultra-dynamic techno and sensuality has already proved itself on Bedrock. Dope (BEDDIGi13) was a Balearic techno monster, combining the elegance of Detroit attitude to the groove of a big room tune. The highly hypnotic All Access with fellow French prodigy, Timid Boy (aka Damien Almira) is equally amazing here.

Catalan producer and DJ Marc Dosem is unquestionably one of the hottest rising stars in the underground electronic dance scene. His bold debut album, Parallel (Sino), was released to much critical acclaim in the summer of 2011, further cementing growing respect, having already unleashed massive tunes such as Silent Drop and Beach Kisses. Dosems stunning remix of Henry Saiz La Marea (BED100R) was a highlight of 2011. His unrivalled ability to harness glistening melodies, taking listeners on a trip through wondrous realms of emotion, are supreme on How Do You Do It, a fitting finale to what is an extraordinary collection of the finest underground electronic dance music.

Once again, its hats off to Bedrock for raising the bar even higher with this exceptional compilation. In this day and age to not only survive as an independent label, but also to flourish and constantly evolve, bringing forward new and exciting talent, is something that should be applauded. Miami here we come!
