Rough cut of a tune I wrote in 2010 about a Cornishman called Arthur from Botallack who used to feed the badgers. When he died, people turned up to his funeral wearing a woolly hat.

Recorded in Shipley Church, West Sussex on a tape recorder. About W.H. Hudson, the Victorian field naturalist and founder member of the RSPB who wrote of the South Downs. This song is from his point of view imagining a scene from his Book Nature in Downland as he sat during a service at Bishopstone Church thinking about Rev James Hurdis, a former Vicar of that church who wrote "poor poetry" according to Hudson, but there is a sense of sentimentality towards Hurdis. The lyrics also mention Hudson's wife Emily. She died before him and he had the words of Bishop King of Chichester put on her stone..."I will not fail to meet thee in that hollow vale."
