These songs were recorded during live studio band recordings at Roundhead Studios, Auckland, on the 9 and 10 November 2015. Songs were played 3-4 times and the best version was selected for mixing. The live playing of songs was a scary business as it required as few errors as possible by the 8 players and singers, something only a few of us had done before. We feel that some nice stu was captured by the use of this traditional recording method, as well as occasional unintended extra stu .

Guy is an Auckland singer-songwriter who has released 4 solo albums and 2 band albums with Selon Recliner. 
In 1990 Guy won the Silver Scroll Award for his third album 
“Don’t Take Me For Granted”. 
The same year he also won the Most Promising Male Vocalist Award. 
He is now releasing his 5th solo album, “West by North” after returning from 4 years in India and Thailand. 
He has toured NZ extensively on several occasions with long time friend Derek Lind (who acted as “Recording Reviewer” on “West By North”), as well as supporting a variety of local and international acts over the years. 

Recorded at Roundhead Studios, “West By North” exhibits a distinct country feel by way of Glenn Ross Campbell’s ((Jucy Lucy, The Misunderstood, Al Hunter, Donna Dean) captivating pedal steel playing. 
Recording and mixing by Jordan Stone, (Neil Finn, Wilco, Passenger, The Datsuns). 
Guy and his band will be touring nationwide in May/June to promote the new release.

Guy Wishart's latest offering of 12 songs has been worth the wait. A previous Silver Scroll winner, Guy recently recorded his 5th album ‘West By North’ at Auckland’s Roundhead Studio. After writing and releasing 2 albums with Auckland band “Selon Recliner“, Wishart was ready to focus on his indie folk material again. “The band practised the songs over a period of months, so in the studio, each track was recorded as a full band, playing and singing simultaneously. We did three to four takes, while Derek listened to and selected the best versions.” “It was an interesting experience, recording this way and I think it gives the tracks a more cohesive sound overall. It’s not without imperfections, but this makes it more human and less clinical.” The indie folk feel, has had elements of alt country added on this album thanks to the legendary Glen Ross Campbell’s amazing pedal steel playing.
