Gypsyfire is in its 23rd year of entertaining with a unique blend of original contemporary folk/americana/Celtic/Appalachian stories in song.  Charles Stacey, Cynthia Whiddon Green and Steve Sprague (and friends) bring together a blend of styles, sounds and stories that move from humor to tragedy to political incorrectness.  Charlie has built a catalogue of almost 200 original songs that bridge the spectrum of Celtic, contemporary folk, americana and jazz with Steve bringing in a strong blues and jazz influence.  In the mean time Cynthia and Charlie have taken the traditional Appalachian and Celtic tunes and found ways of bringing the past and present together in original ways.  Over the years Gypsyfire has graced the stages at festivals, listening rooms, coffee houses, Irish Pubs, house concerts and state park amphitheaters (oh and St Patricks day at a real biker bar).  From New Mexico to Texas, Oklahoma, through Memphis and on to the Mid Atlantic they have delighted audiences with their close harmony and rich musical tapestry.  Along with their live performances Gypsyfire has produced 10 CD’s after upgrading the studio to the digital format in 1998.  Charlie’s growing up with a recording engineer father and then his own 23 years in broadcasting have served him well to engineer, produce, mix and master the band’s CD’s as well as to produce the graphic design for the projects. Cynthia Whiddon Green grew up in Texas, West Virginia, and the Washington D.C. area with both the traditional music of these regions and the music of her ancestral home in the Highlands of Scotland (Kintyre). She has overcome years of classical voice training to return to her musical roots. When not on stage she’s a teacher and has also done research and translation on medieval texts that have been used in both academic and popular press.  Charlie’s day job for the past 23 years has been psychotherapist and his combined experience in film making and psychology emerge in many of his songs. Steve Sprague joined Gypsyfire in the production of the “Times Mandala - The Celtic Calendar Project” and just never left.  He brings years of experience playing bass and lead guitar in Rock, Jazz and Blues bands first in his native NY state as well as Memphis and here in New Mexico.  Steve brings a producers and arrangers sensibility and a polished performers energy.
