"The story takes place in a world where the ecosystem has collapsed, and industrialism has made the world inhabitable and covered it in thick smog. A lonely spirit is wandering endlessly across the polluted landscapes until they encounter a tall monolith connected to a power station in the waters. The monolith serves as a portal and has a strange symbol carved into it, which represents a new world to those who encounter it. The black wires are connected to the Earth’s core, absorbing its remaining life energy so that is can be used as fuel to drive the portal to the new world, where those fortunate enough to find it in time can start over. They do not know whether anyone else has found the portal in time, or if they will be the last of their species, but they have no other choice than to take the step.
At first I had a specific idea to what the picture should look like, but it didn’t look right in the process, and so I had to do a lot of experimentation with objects and camera angles until the composition looked right. The design process was more about trial and error than anything else, but it also had to fit the heave bass lines and atmospheric pads in the music. I went with making the scene very industrial and mystical at the same time."
