"She Be Lookin" is the latest release from San Jose's multi-instrumentalist, GYREFUNK and Rojai, the frontman emcee for SF Bay Area's Bayonics. The two paired up to record what is sure to become a bboy anthem. The song is decked out with live instrumentation, a heavy breakbeat bassline and is paired with Rojai's vocals sitting perfectly in the pocket.

GYREFUNK, a heavy contributor to the Bay Area's modern funk scene, is well known for his all around musical chops.  From laying down guitar licks, to clever keyboard chord progressions, his combination of futuristic funk and classic soul aesthetics has landed him performances with Stevie Wonder, Black Eyed Peas, B2K, and Far East Movement, to name a few.

Recently, GYREFUNK collaborated with Lookwright Manufacturing to build a one-of-a-kind hybrid instrument that looks like a device from Darth Vader's closet. Dubbed the Vinstrument, you can catch GYREFUNK playing it for audiences throughout the Bay Area.

Back in the 90's, there was a scene bubblin' in The Bay that would spawn a whole generation of Filipino American Freestyle and R&B groups. Artists, like Jocelyn Enriquez, would pave the way, becoming one of the first Fil-Am's to sign a major label record deal. More acts would follow, and it became common to hear acts like Jocelyn Enriquez, Kai, Pinay, OneVoice, M:G, Buffy, and Jaya (to name a few) playing at family parties, cotillions, night clubs, on concert stages, and even the radio. Most of these groups were based in the San Francisco Bay Area, repping Pinole, Union City, Berkeley, and even Vallejo.

This mix is dedicated to that special time, when girls rocked pumped up hair, fellas rode the cars that went BOOM, and Filipino R&B groups ruled The Bay. I included some of my fav Bay Area Freestyle, Hi-NRG, and R&B classics along with some guilty pleasures from that era. Pump it up!
