The Dusk of the Fifth Sun / El Ocaso del Quinto Sol:
An interactive sound shrine by ℌEXOℜℭℑSMOS

It was said that, even before time itself began, Ometecuhtli and
Omecihuatl, the Lord and Lordess of the Duality in Aztec religion had 4 childs; 4 incarnations of the Sun.

They were given the task of creating the world, to give life to other
gods and, finally, to the human species that would praise them.

Each sibling represented an order, a time, a space, a cardinal point
and a color:

The red was named Xipe Totec.

The black, Tezcatlipoca.

The yellow, Huitzilopochtli

And the white, Quetzalcóatl.

When the siblings went on with their task, four worlds, four Suns and
four human species where successively created and destroyed.

The first human species was devoured by tigers. The second, converted into apes. The third, trnsformed into birds. The fourth turned into fish.

We are now living in the time of the fifth sun in which the ancient
Tonalpohualli calendar has predicted:
“When the fifth human species witness the apparition the four
Quetzalcoatl siblings facing the four cardinal point with the Sun
hanging in the middle of them, it is a sign that the dusk of the fifth
Sun is near”…

• The dusk of the fifth Sun is an interactive sound shrine
installation by ℌEXOℜℭℑSMOS (Moisés Horta Valenzuela, México-USA, 1988) that questions the notion of technological progress within contemporary Western society through a juxtapositional narrative of prehispanic Aztec Mythology and the non-intended use of current ubiquitous artifacts such as Fidget spinners and smartphones.

The artwork was premiered at Galleri Rum/Klang in Jyderup, Denmark and was made possible with the support of the Danish Art Council.

“A Ritual for Floral, Cybernetic and Neuronal Intelligences”
is a live audiovisual performance that builds a temporary direct interspecies communication bridge between beings from the plantae, cybernetic and human kingdoms. By embedding a cybernetic Machine Intelligence to mediate the biological readings of a succulenta plant via the Pulsum Plantae circuit developed by Interspecifics and the artist’s own neuronal readings captured via an EEG (electroencephalography); this ritual speculates on a world where the distinction between natural and artificial intelligences are blurred.

*The resulting audio and video documentation was captured at the exhibition “Stories for a More than Human World” curated by artist Theresa Schubert.

𝕺𝖐𝖆𝖈𝖍𝖎𝖍𝖚𝖆𝖑𝖎 es una red neuronal capaz de sintetizar una nueva constelacion de música 3ball

𝕺𝖐𝖆𝖈𝖍𝖎𝖍𝖚𝖆𝖑𝖎 es simultáneamente una tecnología que exterioriza la memoria del 3ball y es capaz de sintetizar nuevos tracks para el club de baile post-pandémico.

𝕺𝖐𝖆𝖈𝖍𝖎𝖍𝖚𝖆𝖑𝖎 (En Nahuatl: Futuro) es uno de múltiples posibles futuros en donde la música 3ball se sigue renovando a partir de una simbiosis entre tecnologías del ritmo prehispánicas e inteligencia artificial occidental.

El segundo en una serie de lanzamientos de 𝔥𝔢𝔵𝔬𝔯𝔠𝔦𝔰𝔪𝔬𝔰 que investigan la composición automatizada por Inteligencia Artificial, utilizando el 'state-of-the-art' en modelos generativos de audio.

Abordando la tecnología de audio generative desde una mirada decolonial, en donde sensibilidades no occidentales de ritmo son el tema central, 𝕺𝖐𝖆𝖈𝖍𝖎𝖍𝖚𝖆𝖑𝖎 es simultáneamente álbum, paquete de sampleos y máquina generativa de música.

El proceso consistio en entrenar una red neuronal de estilo "Transformer" con un extenso archivo de musica 3ball, al rededor de 40 Gigabytes de musica, compilado del canal de youtube dedicado a la musica 3ball en Mexico, word Tribal (www.youtube.com/channel/UCFgJTiNXIUc-qG13KUm2RNw) y utilizado con su permiso explícito.

𝕺𝖐𝖆𝖈𝖍𝖎𝖍𝖚𝖆𝖑𝖎 is a neural network capable of synthesizing a new constellation of 3ball music

𝕺𝖐𝖆𝖈𝖍𝖎𝖍𝖚𝖆𝖑𝖎 is simultaneously a technology that externalizes the memory of the 3ball and is capable of synthesizing new tracks for the post-pandemic dance club.

𝕺𝖐𝖆𝖈𝖍𝖎𝖍𝖚𝖆𝖑𝖎 (Nahuatl: Future) is one of many possible futures where 3ball music continues to be renewed based on a symbiosis between pre-Hispanic rhythm technologies and Western artificial intelligence.

The second in a series of 𝔥𝔢𝔵𝔬𝔯𝔠𝔦𝔰𝔪𝔬𝔰 releases investigating automated composition by Artificial Intelligence, using 'state-of-the-art' in generative audio models.

Approaching generative audio technology from a decolonial point of view, where non-Western rhythm sensibilities are the central theme, 𝕺𝖐𝖆𝖈𝖍𝖎𝖍𝖚𝖆𝖑𝖎 is simultaneously album, sample pack and generative music machine.

The process consisted of training a "Transformer" style neural network with an extensive 3ball music file, around 40 Gigabytes of music, compiled from the YouTube channel dedicated to 3ball music in Mexico, word Tribal (https: // www.youtube.com/channel/UCFgJTiNXIUc-qG13KUm2RNw) and used with their explicit permission.

All material published here is released under a copy(far)left license and is free for download, remix and sample.

" ℌEXOℜℭℑSMOS is an uncanny link between ancient and contemporary sound technologies. Prehispanic sound artifacts from ancient México, contemporary brain-computer interfaces and hand crafted electronic instruments blend together to situate the listener in a teknoXamanistic ritual of rhythmical noise soundscapes which addresses the politics of colonization and occupation – whether it be on the dance floor or interactive immersive sound installations.
 
He's an alumni of the Red Bull Music Academy held in London, UK (2010), participated as a guest composer at ElektronMusikStudion in Stockholm, Sweden (2014 & 2017), played in Boiler Room México, and has participated in the Tijuana, Mexico City and Berlin editions of Music Makers Hacklab by CTM festival.
