Kia ora and welcome to the New Zealand Federation of Socialist Societies online audio resource project. The Federation is a national body and formal affiliation of regional socialist societies that have a common cause and purpose across New Zealand.

Our goal is to promote the engagement, discussion, and popularisation of socialist ideas, politics, history, and principles. By socialism, we mean, in the broadest sense, the political goal of bringing the working class to power at all levels of society in order to establish a system where production is organised according to the needs of society rather than the accumulation of private wealth. To this end, across New Zealand, we host seminars, lectures, workshops, film screenings, and social events that are open to the public. 

In this four-part series, some of our members came together to read through and discuss a short pamphlet of Marx's entitled Wage Labour and Capital. Originally written as a series of lectures addressed to the German Workingmen's Club of Brussels in 1847 and later republished in Neue Rheinische Zeitung in 1849, this short text acts as a primary introduction to some of the core concepts and ideas Marx developed in his lifetime.
