The influence of British electronic music genres has been everpresent in the work of Lao - take jungle for example which left its traces throughout his whole discography, starting from 2012's track 'Mangle' all the way until the praised album 'Chapultepec' released last year. After all, it is also Aphex Twin tattoo that graces his forearm as a testament to the life-changing experience that was stumbling across the music of this visionary musician. Half-jokingly, maybe that's why Other Islands, a London-born producer, was such a great companion for Lao to create a collaborative EP 'Lo Que Queda, Vuelve', a three track release which adds baile funk, dembow, grime and ballroom to the pool that already includes the aforementioned jungle. On a more serious note though, Other Islands is definitely the one to watch as proved by his latest outputs - a remix for Lila Tirando a Violeta produced alongside Imaabs and a track for Precious Metals compilation.

Elias Musiak AKA jaijiu is an audiovisual artist hailing from the depths of Soundcloud and Argentina. Influenced by the Argentine club sound, jaijiu reimagines what carnaval could sound like if you hit it with a hammer and recorded it. He has worked alongside colleagues in Buenos Aires to find a new sound that is rapidly spreading to other hemispheres. In 2019 along with these peers they started a record label called “Rebote Discoteca” which encompasses music productions representing these sounds that have been brewing all across Latin America. With a shared agenda to showcase and connect this particular sound to “Canada”, Elias and Max Ammo (AKA El Ángel Exterminador) joined forces at the beginning of 2024 to create Cadena.

Sin Afuera (“Without Outside”) is the new collaborative EP from Chilean producer @Imaabs, label manager of NAAFI and cofounder of Máquina Simple, and @OtherIslands, a vocalist and producer from London’s underground club scene. Both based in Mexico City, the two artists share a close creative partnership shaped by a mutual interest in exploring the limits of global electronic music.

The EP’s title refers to the myth of closed systems—those that define themselves by casting an outside as dissident, migrant, or simply noise, and enforcing its exclusion. Through hybridity, dissonance, and distortion, the record traces the contours of this outside, imagining other ways of being in the world.

Released via NAAFI, the four tracks draw on and destabilize the rhythmic logics of dembow, baile funk, grime, dancehall, reggaeton, and jungle. Frenetic percussion and glistening synths meet expansive sound design: ASMR flickers, field recordings, and fragments of unintelligible speech bleed through swung grooves and shimmering textures. The result is a sound that is luminous and tense, shot through with longing and evoking a space that feels at once intimate and yet out of reach.
