After six months of hibernation, our Satellite Trax sublabel has reawakened to freshen up the club circuit with brand new cuts. This time, we are bringing it back home to highlight one of Chicago’s latest up-and-comers.

As an advocate for Chicago’s diverse and impactful contributions to the expansive music sphere, CURSXR sees himself as a flourishing product of his own environment. From house to jazz, hip-hop to footwork, and everything in between - the support that local artists share for our city’s roots run deep. In this case, his passion for footwork culture has motivated him to explore the enriched subgenre. With an upbeat release via Joog Music from last year that recently caught our attention, he is now set to make his debut on home turf.

Landing somewhere in between moody jungle and textbook footwork, “Vanish Mode EP” is a testament to how the two prolific subgenres coincide. Each track blends lush atmosphere and breaks found in jungle with heavy low-end and playful song structures heard in footwork. The project begins with “Dark Dream,” catapulting the listener into an ethereal realm of breakbeats. “Box-Shaped Heart” is an ode to the style of footwork that we have grown to love: vocal chops and prominent drums pasted over a soulful ambiance. “Space Traffic” takes the EP further left field, bringing in a memorable four-on-the-floor section. The final track “You A Custy” is made for dancefloor battles and will surely land with the footwork connoisseurs cutting it up in a dark room.

With salutes to the fabled Chicago footwork movement, along with a niche yet welcoming local jungle and drum ‘n’ bass community, “Vanish Mode EP” is CURSXR’s promising contribution to our city’s music DNA. We are very thrilled to showcase the newest homegrown talent joining our blossoming collective.
