Russia’s finest drum & bass duo are back with their new synthwave-inspired, 80s-infused drum & bass skipper, ‘Wait For Me’. In 2020, the minimalistic sound masters Bop x Subwave released their second EP ‘Dream On’, that explored the sounds of garage and lo-fi jungle. Now, the time has come for them to unleash even more magic on Hospital Records ahead of their debut album, coming winter 2022.

‘Wait For Me’ is complete with addictive signature touches from Bop x Subwave. Stripped back drums, unforgettable lead vocals and their trademark end-of-bar double claps are a refreshing wave of originality as the soundsmith duo press on into previously unexplored territories.

Releasing nothing but futuristic gems and consistently pushing beyond the boundaries of the drum & bass circuit through experimenting with garage, techno, synth-pop and more, Bop x Subwave have since racked up DJ support from the likes of London Elektricity, DJ Marky, Flava D, Grafix, Dillinja, Monrroe and more. Since the inception of the duo with ‘Clair De Lune’ released on Bop’s Microfunk label back in 2018, the pair have released their debut 2019 EP ‘Love & Other Drugs’ that was home to their hit single ‘Don’t Wake Me Up’. Plus, their ‘Dream On’ EP with Beatport Garage chart-topper ‘Haze’, a release with Degs on ‘The Shade’ for Hospital’s NHS400 EP, and more recently their remix of Hugh Hardie’s ‘Tearing Me Apart (feat. Kyan)’ as part of the ‘H25PITAL’ celebratory compilation, and ‘Zaichik’ on the ‘Forza Horizon 5: Hospital’ soundtrack LP.

Just as promising as solo artists, Bop has seen huge successes with his recent ‘Perehod’ EP which was picked up by dance music tastemakers such as Oneman and Laurent Garnier. Subwave continues to press on into 2022 with a dark minimal funk slammer as part of Lens’ ‘Hospital Mixtape’, not forgetting his releases across Galacy, Liquicity and the foundational Metalheadz. Album title track ‘King’ sees SOLAH showcase her signature soulful sonics as she pens heartfelt lyricism and delivers captivating harmonies. With a beautiful meaning behind the track, SOLAH states “the King in this is not me. It’s dedicated to my son and started a lot of the creativity that is on this album.” With Halogenix on the production and the pair boasting an impressive string of collaborations including ‘Out Of Line’, ‘The Night’ and ‘Flames’, this one is yet another future classic from SOLAH as she lays down a loving tribute to her son.

Embracing her R&B influences, ‘Brand New’ is a vibrant bouncer featuring the production of the rapidly up and coming artist Waeys. SOLAH comes through with addictive toplines which float seamlessly above a bubbling bassline and skippy drums. If the sunshine had a soundtrack, this would be it.

On ‘Glorify’ SOLAH’s exquisite musicality and magnetic wordplay strike again. Not afraid of a switch up, she heads into techy territories with an instrumental courtesy of the one and only Enei. Whether it’s home listening or lighting up the dance floor, this deadly drum & bass cut is an indisputable anthem.

The dreamlike ‘Firefly’ is a gorgeously put together liquid drum & bass soother as SOLAH links up with BCee once again. Sombre piano chords and rolling drum work lay the foundations for SOLAH’s angelic melodies to shine through. Becoming quite the pairing, SOLAH & BCee have worked on numerous tracks including ‘Everything Is Possible’ and ‘Fly’ on Hospital Records, ‘Say It Loud’ on Sigma’s ‘BeatsBassLife’ imprint and ‘Spirals’ on BCee’s very own Spearhead Records.

Last and certainly not least, ‘Time’ is a stunning album round-off featuring the heartwarming sprinkles of a gospel choir to inject even more euphoria into the already uplifting melodics and harmonies of the track. Produced by drum & bass newcomer Son, brace yourself for a spine-tingling journey through raw emotion encapsulated into a touching drum & bass ballad.

Other notable album moments include the garage-infused stepper ‘Haven’t You Heard’ with rising duo Tease & Reset on production, and ‘Something To Get Over’ sees a welcomed vocal feature from Manchester’s very own Slay, with Mitekiss on production duties.

In anticipation of the upcoming tour, this is a tribute to the band who has provided the soundtrack to my life. From 1983-present, ML Gore & Co have been a singular creative force. This is actually the shorter of 2 mixes I made, the longer one being almost 8 hours long. It’s a mixture of album tracks and remixes, nothing is weird or obscure for its own sake; if it’s a remix and it’s here, I like the remix.
Incidentally, the thumbnail art was the result of prompting Stable Diffusion with “Depeche Mode forever”.. I think it’s hilarious as it apparently associates the band with Dave, and synthesized 4 pseudo-Daves as, like aging Italian guys for some reason.
