Another snippet from Caligo Paean, darker in tone to evoke the power Of Caligo, who wasn't just in charge of mist but ruled the domain of chaos. 

Caligo Paean is a 1 hour long sound piece installed on river front property in the town of Franklin, Tasmania as part of the exhibition "When The Fog Clears". It formed part of the Ten Days on The Island Festival March 2025.
The work was installed in several locations across the property including a stack of subs under an old bus, in the main exhibition space and in an abandoned shed some 40 metres from the main area . The speakers were 'tuned' quite differently depending on their location and the sound was not delay corrected with the result of each mini-installation merging with each other in odd sonic ways - kind of calling the listener from one spot to another. The the work features field recordings, percussion, piano, bass guitar and Intonarumori as well as this special one off choir : )

Caligo is the Ancient goddess of Chaos. Born of the fog she controls the darkness, dwells in the void and is as old as the primordial matter that created the universe. This work is a tribute to the goddess as she continues to influence our lives and, in the case of this installation, the site and concept informing the show.

Every day, the mists of the Huon Valley perform a seductive dance, gently obscuring and revealing contours of the fertile land and waters. Situated in The Watershed Franklin, When The Fog Clears features six artists from lutruwita / Tasmania exploring the region’s iconic mists through a variety of mediums including installation, sculpture, illustration, sound, and video.

Developed exclusively for Franklin, this exhibit extends from the waterfront itself into the chambers, kilns, and rafters of the shed, inviting visitors to consider fog as an atmosphere that can cloak us in unexpected ways.

This instrumental track, crafted using an emulator of the legendary ARP 2600 synthesizer, delves into the unsettling notion of a world where machines gradually take over human skills, leaving our consciousness as the final remnant of what truly belongs to us.
In this sonic landscape—where analog layers merge with retro-futuristic textures—humanity quietly resists through its sensitivity, memory, and inner contradictions. While artificial intelligence may learn, simulate, and optimize... it does not feel. A machine cannot dream, doubt, or fall in love. Human consciousness is born from experience, shaped by memory and rooted in the body. And this elusive nuance lies at the heart of everything.
Inspired by the visions in 1999, Brave New World, THX1138, and 2001: A Space Odyssey, the track reflects an age where fiction slips into reality. But instead of sounding an alarm, "Conscience 2600" whispers a lucid realization: within the circuitry and the algorithms, there remains something that cannot be programmed—the intimate pulse of being

When the authentic self seeks to create an environment set apart from the all pervasive false reality and narratives of these distorted times, it must do so without foundation or context, upon a tabula rasa, an arte povera, from nothing, and how better than through joyful aimless play with no intention other than to create and exist within the moment, through art and music and dance, away from symbols and language and meaning, away from expectation or reception, a creator with no audience or consumer, for the simple  fun of it. And it must be fun; if working hard and making effort are key to success or gaining respect then neither success or respect are important, one need not pass beyond gatekeepers for something as worthless as approval. There are no bad paintings. Want for nothing other than to know the people sing even if you hate their song. Smile at their terrible dancing, then dance yourself.

SQRIA is like all my other recordings in that it is made live only with small cheap synth boxes (Korg Volca (Sample1, FM1, Modular, Kick), Korg NTS1, Korg SQ1, Bastl Kastle (1.5, Drum and ARP)) - no daw or complex programming - just some forethought/intention and the generation of a suitable playspace - then recording what happens as I move things about. SQRIA is different in that each track is originally hours long and then edited down to something near 20 minutes.
