Spiffy Man - Farewell (feat. Progley) (Bardo & Arpyem Remix)

After a week of travel, rental cars, airports, restaurants, basketball games, shopping, hotels, and Ubers...it is good to return to the friendly confines of Phantom Laboratories West again (the Mobile Unit is put away for a couple of months, at least.)  

Minneapolis, you were wonderful.  (...and very kind of you to go from -2F the night before we got there, with way too much ice everywhere, to being 80F on the evening we left, and all of the ice seemed to be gone (and good riddance!))  

After such a whirlwind, I thought it might be nice to spend this Sunday just chilling out a bit...which, honestly, is something I enjoy doing on any given Sunday.  And so, it feels entirely appropriate to share "When Words Won't Work" as today's Interbay track.  

Midtempo, electronic pop, with lyricless vocalizations and some some precise spoken word segments over a minimal arrangement of slower breaks house beats, darkly cinematic pads, and some squelchy techno synths to help define the chorus.  

Best yet,  it gets in...does what it does...and then gets out.  Leaving you a good chunk of your day left to enjoy.  (You're welcome!)  

I really like working in this style, which is slightly frustrating, because songs in this style sometimes struggle to gather much traction with the algorithm.  A good example of this struggle is the song "Drizzle" from a few days ago.  I thought that this song could be one of the more popular Interbay tracks here on SoundCloud...and instead, it still hasn't even earned 50 people willing to listen to it.  

I think, because they're neither fish nor foul.  They're not post-punk/indie rock...and they're not full on dance music...so, it feels like the SoundCloud algorithm doesn't know what to do with it.  

So, if you're reading this...well, thank you, first of all...but if you could spend a couple more minutes, after listening to "When Words Won't Work"--could you also give a listen to "Drizzle"?  It would help me feel less frustrated by how things work.  (Of course, you could also check out yesterday's Madchester-style indie dance rock track "Run Too Fast" and the Visage-esque electro pop "Europe By Train"...as they, too could use a little more love.  Thank you again.)  

I have long had faith in my ability to use words to manifest the reality I want to be part of...despite the fact that the evidence suggests this ability has long since atrophied.  I want to believe that I will know the right words to say to express how I feel, to leave the impression I want to leave, to hopefully connect with other people in meaningful ways.  

But it can be scary to rely on your words when there are no words.  I definitely feel that fear more and more lately.  Maybe you do, too?
