Neophyte is a music group formed in 1992 in the Dutch city of Rotterdam. The group consists of Jeroen Streunding (aka DJ Neophyte), Danny Greten and Jarno Butter. The name means newcomer. The group was placed under contract with DJ Paul Elstaks Rotterdam Records. A few years later, a guitarist, Jarno Butter, was added to the live act.

In the early nineties, Neophyte had released some popular songs such as "Mellow Moenie Mauwe" and "Ik wil hakke!". Later they gained even more fame when they released the records "Happy is for Hobos"; "Hardcore to the Bone"; Released "Execute" and "Army Of Hardcore". Neophyte also produced tracks under the names Body Lotion and Hard Creation.

Over the years, the group Neophyte has shown that it was not happy with the happy hardcore craze that took place in the Netherlands in the mid-1990s. They responded to this genre with the track "Happy is for Gays". Later Neophyte was told that this text could no longer be used in such a way that the letter M was made into a B. In the track itself you can still clearly hear the M (as well as the English slang word 'faggot'). The track is a parody of the happy hardcore genre, mixing happy sounds with terror. In the song, personified and over-acted voices imitate a gay, which are then drowned out by the kicks (hard thumps).
