I've been listening to, and playing, the Children's Songs by Chick Core for a long time.  Now I have access to an electric piano, I decided to record a few of them.

A lush arrangement of 'A Quiet Place' by Jim Fieldhouse (Nefarious Music Publications).  Originally composed by Ralph Carmichael and popularised by Take 6 in the 1980s.  I'm playing all saxes (Alto 1 & 2, Tenor & Baritone), overdubbed in the living room on a hot day.  Just back from holidays so am a bit out of practice!

A Quiet Place

Inspired by Low Altitude's track Sanav Torp, recorded at the Dyski Sound Maps retreat in April 2024.  His work was entirely built from sine waves, meticulously sequenced.  It reminded me of Rhodes piano, so I thought I'd try my own interpretation on Rhodes and with soprano sax noodlings on the top.

Graham Fitkin's "Frank", originally written for piano.
Here arranged for soprano saxophone and Rhodes piano.

Beautiful variations on a very simple theme, originally intended for acoustic piano.
This version recorded on Rhodes, but in the first variation, using an acoustic piano as a reverb chamber - this is indicated in the sheet music, by holding down a left hand chord while playing, with no use of the sustain pedal.

Lots of filter resonance, crush delay, tickled by Rampaging bits and a ton of spring reverb.  Shame I don't know how to make a stereo track yet!

TBH it's pretty unlistenable but fun for a first performance!

Nice moog-esque bass patch inspired by Quincas of SynthDIYGuy fame on Youtube.
PB wheel adds a little offset to one of the VCO inputs.
Mod wheel opens up resonance on the VCF.  VCF cut-off on a continuous ramp from Rampage.
Reverb has a little feedback.

I built a couple of analog drum circuits from a 1984 issue of Polyphony magazine.  They are pew-pewing on this track, with some noise and random sequencing from Turing machine - which also contributes the random melody in the background.  It's not at all musical but the pew-pew stuff is fun.
