Little Black Submarines (Jem Jams)

Hager & Holt Compositions is the musical brainchild of Katherine Hager and Jem Holt.  With influences from classical music to metal, H&HC hopes to combine a love for film and music, and produce pieces that will stand the test of time.  

The two grew up together in a very small town that didn't offer a lot of music programs.  "We both sang in chorus and played in concert band...that was all the school offered.  It wasn't until we both went to college [the Art Institutes of Tennessee-Nashville] that we discovered we both loved playing music as a duo."  Holt explained.

Hager, a veteran pianist of over 22 years, took one lesson in her life:

"I was four and my mom wanted me to kind of follow in my siblings' footsteps.  I didn't like my teacher; she made me keep my shoes on when I played.  So, after that first time, I told my mom on the car ride home, 'I'm not doing that anymore.'  And I pretty much compared that woman to a witch.  My solo studies started thereafter."

Holt, on the other hand, is more than classically trained.  He has earned two degrees in the study of music and in Violin Composition from Western Kentucky University.  He has been awarded by the Kentucky Masters of Music Scholarship as one of the youngest violin proteges in the state and has been featured in several upcoming music releases.

What do they need from listeners?

"We just want people to give us a chance--we aren't working with a full orchestra here; it's just the two of us and our passion for music.  And anything anyone can give us is better than silence," said Holt.  "It's ten songs.  Listen and let us know what you think.  The more we hear from our audience, the better off we will be when we send out our portfolio of work."
