Every Sunday that I'm home, I try to spend a few hours in the studio practicing something—a recording technique, a playing technique, a composing technique. Like my novel-writing and art-making, most of my practice is only for me . . . all that work should be invisible in any final project. All that invisible work gets saved in notebooks or sketchbooks or on hard drives that will never be released. Here's an example of one of my Sunday sketches.
