Guadeloupe, Trinidad & Tobago, St. Lucia: you might be inclined to think these specks in the Lesser Antilles aren't exactly conventional outposts for quality, right? Well, think twice. Music touches all corners of the map and with some determination, you can happen upon gems from almost any time and place in human history. That open-ended, curious mentality provides sustaining fuel for all the finest diggers – and Deano Sounds of Boston is right up there with the very best of them. His label Cultures of Soul are a true office, traipsing an impressively broad landscape and picking the sweetest fruits.

We premiered a track off the first Tropical Disco Hustle and were harassing poor Jeff for the second instalment before it had even been sent for mastering, but with good reason! "Caribean People" (spelling intentional) is a super rare cut from 1980, given a lick of new paint from Parisian rework maestro Waxist Selecta, who stretches the African-lilting groove here n there, switching up tempo at will. It's gold; unsurprisingly, the entire compilation is. Cop it May 5th.

Beware, Discomatin is back. In 2018, the Parisian crew of diggers and DJ’s originally known for their edits goes official with fully licensed and remastered reissues. For this new adventure, they chose an incredible in-demand French boogie EP from Diva, an eighties funk band from Bordeaux.  
Diva only released one EP with La Nuit, a sentimental, almost poetic boogie banger with great synth, guitar and vocal parts. The track could honestly have been a radio hit in the eighties with some real promotion. Today, it’s still time to make it right and it is already an anthem in the French underground disco scene.   
 Originally on the B side of the 1985 original release on Cactus, "La Nuit" is here available with its two different versions (12’’ and 7’’ mix) and comes also with “Prise Au Piège”, a more synth-pop influenced funk track which gave its name to the original release. 
 The band was formed by Gabrielle Andriampanana, Alex Louisor and Olivier Renoir. Before Diva, these last two already played together in the local new-wave band Bolton which was one of the first of the area to use synthetisers. Even if they had a small recognition at the time, the original release stood quite underground. Thanks to Discomatin, it’s now available to the real connoisseurs and still with the fantastic illustrations of French artist Camille de Cussac on the back cover. Suuuuuuuuuuper proud and happy to present you my next 12" via Lumberjacks in Hell that's out today!!! As maybe Mendel and Adrien will be able to testify I have been struggling with BROWN CURLS (performed by Khalil Anthony) for a couple of years, as I always had something that egged me about it. I dont see myself as a perfectionist but there is a certain line that mustn't be crossed . So it might come as no surprise that my favourite (released) version is actually not by myself but the restless genius Patchworks who transformed it into a perfect boogie bomb!!! Try it, it will work 100% !!!
But that's not even the title track! The EP is called IF YOU LIKE , hey? The track has been around just as long as the beginning of Brown Curls really and started as a remix, that morphed and morphed and morphed into what it is now, my take on a Afro-Boogie track. Thanks to everyone involved foremost Jan van Mastrigt on Bass, Derek van Beelen on Drums, Jair Wix on Guitar and Tim Jules on Keys.

Decided to go in with Isaac Freed on the bass, slow it down add some beats and samples, have fun with it. I liked the original but the key sounded too upbeat, I wanted to take it in a more moody route. Slowed it down to 100bpm so it's a bit out of key, but feels good this way, Hope you dig.
