hello beautiful community (: 

today i want to share with you a special piece, in which i finally found the perfect time for, 

10 years ago, Jaar’s first record came out; words cannot describe the influence & inspiration it had on me. hearing it back in 2011 was an ‘ear-opener’ when i was simultaneously discovering the labels & sounds such as Diynamic, Hot Creations, Cajual, Off Recordings, and Get Physical. it challenged my ears, it was different and purely unique. 

so it left me thinking, what is this? what am i hearing? i did not entirely understand it at first, part was too weird. but as i kept discovering sounds, listening to music, coming back to the album after years, i was blown away, and finally understood the genius behind the productions.
 
thanks to this record, and to Jaar, the limits to hearing sound was pushed & challenged. i have been  following the artists work religiously since that point of time.

2hrs 22minutes of my interpretation of Jaar’s decade of work (10 years of Jaar). compiling the artists abundant hours of work was a challenge to accumulate in 2 hours. yet all his projects and aliases are used; originals, remixes and live set edits/cuts.

projects and aliases used are from All Against Logic, Daftside, and Darkside (the ingenious collaboration with Dave Harrington).

remixes are from some of musics big names and legends, the likes of Daft Punk, Grizzly Bear, Maceo Plex, Michael Jackson, Mulatu Astatke, Nina Simone, and Wendy Rene. 

this is a dynamic and improvised mix. it is not meant to be perfect. therefore, enjoy the imperfections.  

although you may not feel as sentimental & connected to his music, i do hope it will trigger something, or simply enjoy a few minutes of this music ❤︎

tribute to jaar (10 years of nicolas jaar)

Words cannot describe the heartfelt vibes at Chill O'posite this year and the raw scenery the festival took place at. From the charming Lagoon on day 1 & 3, and the enchanting majestic mountains on day 2 that put us all in awe & trance with the music under the vibrant stars & moonlight.

Thank you Chill O'posite and thanks to everyone who came listened, and danced. Now I hope you enjoy this piece of memory as much as I did playing it in that one magical place.

Excited & honored to host a very special & talented artist, welcoming Sangeet to the SOLmundo archive. 

I first got to know Sangeet back in 2017 when I first started discovering the beautiful music within the 100bpm (+/- 10) range. Playing his tracks on my very first SOLmundo episodes released on Lump Records in the Australian bush.

Sangeet is no stranger to the scene, and his productions are widely known amongst established and underground artists who play/produce music within this range. His productions have been on prominent labels such as Lump Records, Pipe & Pochet, MONADA, Shango, Kosa Records, and more.

Sangeet created a beautiful world focused journey, corresponding to one of the podcasts themes.   Thank you for this lovely journey!

this year we celebrate arabic hiphop with what will be a casette release series of 2 sides. 

there’s no doubt that arabic hiphop is popular, the scene is active more than ever before. however, it still doesn’t always get the attention it deserves. thanks to a local hometown hiphop ambassador (bighass) for always pushing the scene & its talents for years.

for the love of hip-hop, and to celebrate international hip-hop day, i’d like to shed  light on the talented arabic hip-hop scene as a sub category series of hiptrohop. 

the mixtape is a good head-start discovery for the curious & interested about what goes down in the arabic hip-hop scene.

six years of SOLmundo الشمس العالم

Joyed to present this first part of a wholesome reggae mix; covering 5 decades of strictly Jamaican reggae, the 70’s ’til today.

It was a fun task compiling these records together, indulging in one of my favourite hobbies that makes me happy; dig for records. 

I’ve been slowly feeding off my reggae interest and discovering quality Jamaican reggae (and international Reggae) for some years now. And, making mixtapes out of the music records I collect is one of my favourite & fun ways to “organize” these records and share the the music I love to others.

I put my heart out in digging this collection, cherry-picking classic records that are known & not so known to the very best modern reggae. Oh and, no there’s not much Bob Marley here, because you all know it.

Finally, this mixtape is constructed in chronological order, decade after decade. Although a random approach would've been fun and exciting, I thought listening to the reggae music journey in the way it historically happened would be more authentic, indulging in the evolving sounds of reggae through time. Decade after decade.

the day i didn’t know would come, has come: i moved to riyadh 3 months ago. 

so i felt like putting up a mix sharing some sounds lately. the mix is basically a re-constructed version of what i played at balad social during @narrativesmusic showcase with @nickcurly on april 25.

i love archiving my sets because: 

1. i want you to listen to it. 
2. i don’t always play the same sounds. i have various favourite styles, so i try to diversify as much as my brain endlessly drifts with these sounds, while having a home for them; soundcloud.

this mixtape emphasizes on beats / beat-making; blending elements of old school instrumental hip-hop beats with contemporary styles, soulful, funk, and jazzy beats, boom bap productions and lo-fi. the majority of the mixtape revolves around underground hip-hop beats; from classics to modern.

…but not until something happened with house 🏠, it was a turning point to his house music discovery journey…

a hakïm & house 🏠 tale 📖, pt. 2 

📖 following up to pt. 1 of the house tale (getting in touch with my house)....  

🖋️ a moment of awakening happened with house music; 2009 deep house was discovered. thereafter, the period of early 2010’s i “officially” fell in love with deep house and started to deeply explore the subgenre ever since. it took over my music library, it was (almost) everything i listened to, bought deep house cds, endless downloads, and played it day and night… i was obsessed & ‘possessed’ 👀🧿👁️

🔍 this mix is basically a snapshot & filtered selection of my deep house library between 2009 and 2014.

🕰️ for some, this will be a very nostalgic mix, for others…it’s perhaps more of a discovery of older records; that are timeless (in my opinion).

🗝️ for the love of older music, and always keeping older music alive.

exactly one year ago, february 16, 2025, hiptrohop vol. 6 was uploaded on soundcloud… 

coincidently, vol. 7 is uploaded today february 16, 2026 — i went on soundcloud to check when the previous mixtape was uploaded (as it’s been while) and it happened to be today last year. the longest stretch between hiptrohop mixtapes…

although it’s been a while, i’ve been gathering records and building the hiptrohop sound playlist slowly until it felt ripe & ready to upload the next mixtape…

the mixtape:

to celebrate j dilla’s birthday & 20 years anniversary of the release of his legendary & revolutionary ‘donut’ ablum. i opened and closed this mixtape with the intro and outro of the album to pay tribute to the artists ongoing legacy… that inspired so many producers...

following the intro, i played my favourite record from madlib; ‘shades of blue: madlib invades blue note’, the mesmerizing track ‘stepping into tomorrow’ is sampled from donald byrd’s beautiful original released in 1975. Another notable artist, a jazz trumpeter known for his impeccable technique...

I had the honor to play and open at Wildwood for the first time in the lush Victorian bush surrounded by beautiful nature & the loveliest bunch of humans. 

Result is the second of the SOLmundo الشمس العالم series, delivering Downtempo tunes, and escalating to 115 - 124 Deep House while keeping the ethnic & tribal sounds in the mix!

SOLmundo 2.0 الشمس العالم - live @ wildwood 2017

I was lucky to be invited and play at YOKE, a charming space where you can express your sound with no limits. A conscious dance community to express and connect through movement, sounds, and ecstatic dance.

It was a very special moment to share my Music in this lovely space with a conscious community of loving people and ecstatic dancers. It was all done for a good cause as 50% went to donation.

"The word YOKE is a Sanskrit term meaning ‘coming together’, forming union. Our workshops are about facilitating authentic connections to oneself and one other in a space completely FREE from judgments. We invite you to take the time to let go of the mind and drop into the body through ecstatic dance and movement set to mind-blowing beats."

The result is this 2 hour set, where the intro brings a "satirical" line from a German film, Original Motion Picture Soundtrack produced by Acid Pauli. Following a hypnotic Indian chant from Mat Zo's predominantly culturally Indian influenced album by Anjunabeats & Goro's "Ana Arabi أنا عربي".

The outro brings one of my personal top favorite Worldbeat/World Music duo geniuses from Mali, Africa... that is Amadou & Mariam, blending their Original into Henrik Schawrz groovy remix. Finally, soothing out to Of Norway's Loneliest Man In Space by Connaisseur Recordings.

☼☼☼ Welcome to episode 1.2 ☼☼☼

In today’s episode, I felt like building a journey that travels across the Wadi’s (Valley’s) and the Sahari (Sahara) of the Middle East and beyond. After a recent visit to العلا Al-Ula in Saudi Arabia, a much needed reconnection to our beautiful land and its rich heritage, culture, and history. A journey of discovery which certainly has left us in awe. For that reason, the trip inspired me to bring in more Arabic & Middle Eastern flavors in this episode. 

  With a hypnotic عُود (Oud) intro, to melodies by the majestically sounding قانون‎ (Kanun) tracing its origins to Ancient Greece, to the groovy and shaking sounds of the energetic دربوكة‎ 
 (Darabukka) percussions, a drum piece used in Mesopotamian and Ancient Egyptian cultures. Arabic lyrics and موال‎  Mawwal (A traditional chant/song in Arabic genre of vocal music that is very slow in beat and sentimental in nature).   But of course, let’s not forgot the more electronic side of things, no narrative needed (:

A predominantly Downtempo episode with a hint of Deep House. We're switching  gears this time and our guest is taking the start of the set and HΛKÏM finishing it off.

The special guest we're featuring today is: Dan Bay (@danbaymusic). A main force behind the Downtempo scene in Germany. He is based in Frankfurt and has been a big role in driving this pure and organic sound in his hometown. Dan is a producer, DJ, live-performer and musician. Most of the sounds he is working with are based on classical synthesizers combined with field recorded samples.

He is part of the Laut & Luise family where he had several releases with them. But also freshly released on respected Downtempo labels Limpio Records and Wayu Records. Be sure to check them out on his profile for your hearing pleasures.

3 years ago, when SOLmundo الشمس العالم started, I had a clear vision of what I want it to sound like; the time I discovered the sounds I truly love — with room for improv and creativity.

When I recorded the first episode in 2017. I closed the mix with what has quickly become one of my all-time favorite tracks and artist (also played @ MDL Beast Festival 2019 in the Arabian Peninsula's Desert).   Fast forward 3 years, I’m very happy and honored to welcome Dandara as our guest artist for todays journey collaboration.
