Istanbul’s one and only reggae club Nayah paved the way for expand of reggae culture locally and shaped the taste of music for many reggae listeners specially in club’s Beyoglu era (before its moving to Kadikoy and closing during pandemic). So here is my salute to those years: Nayah Beyoglu Mixtape. 

Nayah Beyoglu Mixtape is featuring the most played reggae tunes by selecta/djs in Istanbul’s one and only reggae club Nayah between 2010-2016.

Nayah Beyoglu Mixtape // Best of Reggae Mix

Predominantly vinyl, this mix is a crackly selection of 70s dub meditations. The plates at the time represented the political and social climate of Jamaica (and by extension the world). 

I am lucky enough to not have experienced oppression, and I find it fascinating that through music, we can glimpse the emotional reflection of lived human experience separate from our own 'selves'. I've included a handful of the producers of the time such as Pablo Moses, Johnny Clark, The Liberators and The Flames. They were some of many who voiced a notion of longing to, desiring of, and returning to a place of sacredness and rightful home in Africa, and also of a strife in Jamaica and their day-to-day lives.

Beyond this, there's a right old mix of the religious dub (Danny Dread), sexual dub (Matador), vocal gods (Hugh Mundell, Horace Andy, Bob Marley & The Wailers), and much more. 

Also important to note, it's not all 70s/80s! I've included Mungo HiFi's new NHS riddim and other bits.

THE FIRST SKA SELECTION IS HERE, ENJOY!!! Filled up with 19 songs this selection is all about Ska from 1964 – 66 with a crazy extended Version of the Skatalites Cleopatra tune from 1971 at the end of the Selection, one tune to mention specially is the previously unreleased vocal from Eric Monty Morris singing a sufferers' protest song, "Blackman work so hard, but white man gets the money, the rich shall be richer, the poor shall be poorer, something must be done soon"... At the time, most of the artists including Eric Monty Morris mainly focused on singing about love but not about conscious themes so the recording was very exceptional, but unfortunately it was never released until now.
Don’t be worried about the crackles and pops in the selection, because many of the vinyl’s I play are original press so the oldest here is around 50 years old! 
One take, this is a straight mix, no fixing and moving on the computer, just the volume is adjusted!!!!
