Banks of Bann

I wrote this piece at a time when I was living in Glasgow, UK and missing the trees of my hometown Longmeadow, MA in the United States. In writing this I wanted to capture the feeling of being surrounded by the tall trees which dominate the landscape, casting shadows and only letting shafts of sunlight through their leaves. It was first performed on April 30, 2013 at the National Piping Centre in Glasgow. This demo recording was done on May 21, 2013 at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

Longmeadow

A companion composition to Longmeadow, this piece was written while thinking of home and listening to an awful lot of Ravel. Fitzwilliam is the name of the town in New Hampshire in the United States where my family owns some property near a lake. It is there that I spent most of my weekends as a child. I particularly miss it in the autumn, because that is when the trees turn into a blaze of color.
