Takahama Kyoshi was a Japanese poet active during the Shōwa period of Japan. He was the editor of the haiku magazine Hototogisu (previously edited by Shiki), where he promoted a more traditional style of haiku, as opposed to other popular schools which did not follow the pattern of seventeen syllables at that time.
Kyoshi also highlighted the symbolic function of the kigo (the seasonal reference), even though the more modern trends were already tending towards seasonless haiku.

Disquiet Junto Project 0621: The Leftovers
The Assignment: Use recently discarded material to make something new.

Step 1: At the end of the calendar year, people often participate in holidays that result in lots of leftover food. Think about the leftovers — discarded tracks, or MIDI files, or ideas — that result from your music-making process.

Step 2: Scrounge around on your hard drive and recording equipment, and in your memory, to access the sort of creative leftovers that came to mind in Step 1.

Step 3: Make a new track primarily using the resources that surfaced in Step 2. You can, of course, add new material. And be sure to reheat sufficiently.

Old test file of 3 Euclidean sequencers.

Some noise filters, used in an extremely controlled manner.

Very light track, performed on tiptoes.

"This collaboration was born out of a desire by Diogo @diogo-terror to create a track with a 'live', dynamic and improvised feel.

Diogo came up with the original song idea and arrangement of the track by playing in the synth pad tweaking the notes and configs of the arpeggiator, distorted guitar and running bass line.

Trev then played in live drums using roland v-drums electronic kit to continue the live feel we wanted to create. Trev added some extra synth and lead melodies, ear candy, a little bit more fine tuning the arrangement and then mixed and mastered the track."

For my response to the disquiet brief, the two musical influences behind this track are David Sylvian - here referred to through elements of the amazing 'Ghosts' by his band, Japan, in the 1980s - and Brian Eno - through the use of extended, ambient, structures and the use of chance.

Again, I add to a basic (not TOO basic) track of hers with various elaborations of third-world percussion, the jazz organ traditions of my hometown Philly, and somewhat more avant-garde tenor sax explorations. The meaning of our symbolic (and before the end Zildjian cymbal-ic) title is so carefully concealed we can no longer find it ourselves. So just enjoy, it's not like any latter-day Daniel explicating the mystery would be rewarded in decryptocurrency!

Drawing inspiration from his first two years as a father and the recent tenth anniversary of his record label Naviar Records, sound artist Marco Sebastiano Alessi created Fukuoka Postcards, a sound installation focused on the concept of time, and how humans and landscapes perceive it differently.

Marco spent four weeks at Studio Kura in Itoshima, collecting sounds from the local nature, temples, and shrines, looking for places where time seems to have stopped. Creating a collage of soundscapes and applying minimal melodies to convey human presence, Marco aims to create organic music in an endless, ever-changing loop, to represent the impermanence of art and timelessness of nature.

Apparently, the ‘hai’ in ‘haiku’ translates to ‘joke’, ‘fun’, or ‘unusual’, which is part of the inspiration for the odd name of this venture; an evolving project nurtured by Darren Bourne, in collaboration with countless others, past and present. The ongoing obsessions of halF unusuaL are improvisation, chance and the music / non-music boundary, with the aim of (impossibly) creating sound worlds never heard before ...
