EXPERIMENTAL STARS (in 11 tracks)

The sky, the stars, I've been looking at this since I was a kid and I'm still fascinated.
One person said to me "you know, in fact, it is an immense chaos without geometry, without order and immensely dangerous", but it is beautiful and that makes us dream!

Indeed, everything is random, you don't have to look very far. On this project, the sound treatment of the entities observable in space, which represents a tiny part of the black that surrounds us. Each entity has its own colour, its own size, its own location and therefore its own note!
But be careful, it is not necessarily a melody that will come out of it, it is the stars that drive all the electronics designed for this work. I am only the director! Some experiments will be gentler and others more violent!
Welcome to the space which is, after all, quite creative. Have a good listen!

Le ciel, les étoiles, je regarde ça depuis que je suis petit et je suis toujours fasciné.
Une personne m'a dit "tu sais, en fait, c'est un immense chaos sans géométrie, sans ordre et immensément dangereux", mais c'est beau et ça fait rêver !

En effet, tout est aléatoire, il ne faut pas chercher bien loin. Sur ce projet, le traitement sonore des entités observables dans l'espace, qui représente une infime partie du noir qui nous entoure. Chaque entité a sa propre couleur, sa propre taille, sa propre localisation et donc sa propre note !
Mais attention, ce n'est pas forcément une mélodie qui en sortira, ce sont les étoiles qui pilotent toute l'électronique conçue pour cette œuvre. Je ne suis que le metteur en scène ! Certaines expériences seront plus douces et d'autres plus violentes !

Transparent Forms - Nick Ashwood - Cat 010 

Composed in 2022 for Microfest, an annual microtonal festival hosted by Kraig Grady and Michael H Dixon. 

Transparent Forms is Nick’s first group composition following on from his 2020 solo piece Unfolding/Overlay, (Inexhaustible Editions 027). Amanda Stewart wrote in the liner notes to that: “Enfolded in the shifting tones, our ears are at the edge of themselves.” With this new work, he continues this interrogation into the edges of harmonicity and perception. Frequencies from bowed guitar, flute and clarinet burst away from any notion of a stable lattice to reshape our understandings of intervals and chords, and our listening is continually surprised and delighted by the 'tastes' and 'colours' that are revealed. 

The instruments dissolve into each other to create an unrecognisable timbral unity where melody emerges from harmonic clouds.
