A mountain village
under the piled-up snow
the sound of water.

Regarded as the father of contemporary haiku, Masaoka Shiki was a poet and literary critic during the Meiji period Japan.

He advocated realistic observation by “sketching” (shasei) poems and going out into nature with notebooks, thus abandoning the traditional subjects of haiku of the time. His advice for an aspiring poet was, “Use both imaginary pictures and real ones, but prefer the real ones.”

Piled Up Snow (naviarhaiku450)

This is the final experiment I'm going to do using an Audacity cut up from the piano improvisation I did a few weeks back (thanks @stellato-strings for use of your lovely piano), and I'm still playing around with seeing what sounds I can maximise from the Garageband presets.

This lovely haiku by Taylor Wray led me towards the Phrygian mode. My improvisation, in E Phrygian, is played on Babylon VST synth. Recorded and mixed in Reaper, with Frostbite2 added. Mastered with CloudBounce.

This is my submission for the Disquiet Junto 0559 and the assignment was: Compose your personal entrance and exit cues for conference calls.
Well, I can't make it more personal than by using my own name, including my first two official initials, so that will be H.F. Lasschuit. And then I let myself be inspired by the musical signatures of Bach and Shostakovitch. H is the German name for the B, La is the French name for the A, the S becomes E flat (which we call Es). "Uit" is Dutch for "the end". So for my entrance tone I use the two initials, H and F, that become B and F with some nice delay and for the exit tone La, S, S, C, H and "uit" become A, E flat, E flat, C, B and there it stops: the end! I gave them a nice filter sweep and drenched them in reverb.

One of the four great haiku masters, Yosa Buson studied both Japanese and Chinese poetry. He was also an accomplished painter, and most of his poems were accompanied by paintings, resulting in a more diverse and individual set of works than the one by his main historical influence, Basho.

Craig Lincoln is a poet who enjoys the challenge of writing in many forms of poetry. He is the author of two poetry collections: A Mind’s Eye View Come Talk With Me, and Dance Macabre.
