composition # 3 - point(s) becoming a plane

"Hallveig Ágústsdóttir investigates the relationship between image and sound. Her drawings form ‘imaginary soundscapes’ and challenge the viewer to look beyond the immediately visible appearance, texture and utilised technique. A search for suitable materials brought the Icelandic artist to the simplicity of paper, pencil, graphite and charcoal. Materials that, because of their immediacy, enable her to transfer her energy with much more ease than with brush on canvas. In the observation we discover the character of the sounds that accompany every gesture in the creation of her drawings. In her performances, Hallveig plays with the temporary nature of sound. One can hold onto an image, take one’s time to look at it. Sound, however, exists ‘in the now’ and can only be experienced in the time frame necessary to produce the sound. She amplifies her sound-drawings through the use of an interactive audio-visual system: contact microphones combined with live video projection. Hallveig makes ‘visual music’ in the present tense." - Flanders Festival Kortrijk, 2015
