Farhang Sharif learned music under the mentorship of his father starting at a young age. As a result he performed his first radio solo at the age of 12. Sharif has collaborated with notable musicians such as Mohammad-Reza Shajarian, Akbar Golpaigani, Gholam Hossein Banan, Iraj and Mahmoud Khansari.[1] He has also been in attendance at the Berlin music festival. When he was twelve, he started his first solo performance in a live radio program successfully. فرهنگ شریف، (زادهٔ ۱۳۱۰ خورشیدی در آمل)، نوازنده صاحب سبک تار اهل ایران است.[۱] وی از چهار سالگی تحت تأثیر آموزش موسیقی به وسیلهٔ پدرش و نیز رفت‌وآمد بزرگان موسیقی به منزل آن‌ها خصوصاً عبدالحسین خان شهنازی برادرحاج علی اکبرخان شهنازی، موسیقی را فرا گرفت. پدر فرهنگ شریف دکتر داروساز بود و با اهل هنر نیز معاشرت می‌کرد.

وی تار را نزد استادان عبدالحسین شهنازی و مرتضی نی‌داوود، تارنوازان بزرگ اواخر دوره قاجار و اوایل پهلوی آموخت، اما شیوهٔ نوازندگی وی به اساتیدش شباهتی ندارد و مخصوص خود اوست. وی از تکنوازان و بداهه‌نوازان سرشناس موسیقی ایرانی شناخته می‌شود.
