Butter Side Up's sixth EP comes from Stockholm's super slick Basement Space, who serves up four tracks of spacey, tripped-out house and breaks.

Patrik Edenhall is an audio engineer and producer with a love of old school broken beats. In his hands, those beats are worked into everything from jazz to techno, with deft ambient melodies and complex IDM patterns. His meticulous approach shines through once again on these four more timeless tracks.

BSU006 is another innovative EP of multi-faceted club tracks from a fresh underground talent.

Hot on the heels of the Sweely album comes a new EP on Butter Side Up from Velvet Velour. The silky four tracker comes in early December with artwork by Sophie Douala.

Velvet Velour is based in Portugal and has made a quick impression in the last two years with music on Welt Discos, Nuances De Suit and Small Hours. His signature sound is a vibrant fusion of catchy hooks and characterful basslines that fuse UKG, breakbeat and house into something fresh. That is the case again here with a mouthwatering mix of stylish, club-ready sounds.

Butter Side Up hits release number 10 with Pulse Fiction, a fresh four-tracker from London-based T. Jacques. The Nuance de Nuit co-founder aims squarely at the dance floor on this EP and it arrives at the start of December with original artwork by Max Binski.

This is sophisticated house music with a truly seductive sense of late-night charm.

Butter Side Up Records has put together a first-ever remix EP which is due to land in March 2024. It finds Gene On Earth, Garrett David, Huerta, and Driss Bennis aka OCB all adding their own spin to the still standout originals from the album Sweely released here in 2022, and it comes with original artwork from Max Binski.

Butter Side Up’s 12th release, Weekend at Raymond’s Place’ comes from San Diego’s hotly tipped John Manhard. A densely textured and unpredictable six-track EP whose languid groove and swing will sound equally sweet warming up a dancefloor or late into the following day. 

Based in LA and resident of cult party V:isions, John’s been on a roll of late, with releases on the likes of Mui Mui, Perfect Timings & InTheBagg (alongside Dylan Payne) cementing him as a singular producer with an impressively broad reference board. 

The EP’s first track, ‘Shake Your Body’ immediately gets under the skin, a bouncy groove and synth-line pulling you under its command. Over the next 30-odd minutes the spell doesn’t lift - deep house tropes twist and turn playfully over shuffling breaks and swinging basslines, reminiscent of West-Coast house’s finer moments. Manhard’s studio-craft and ear for the unpredictable give a fresh perspective to a much revered and distinctively Pacific-coast sound.

This is music for the fuzzy margins either side of peak time. It’s fitting that Hamish first met and heard John’s music at a hazy afters in LA back in 2022, drawn to a selection of tracks which were largely his own. Two years later these ideas have refined to form another stellar release on BSU, complete with original artwork from Max Binski and scheduled for release in early Ocober.

Our homie Garrett steps up for BSU013 with Nu-Relix, his first full EP in two years. We’re hyped to welcome one of our favourite beat-makers to the BSU family.

The record kicks off with peak-time pressure on Play2Win, followed by breezy ’90s US house flavours of Grow Up. Flip it for a dreamy deep-house double — pure GD energy for the early-hours.
