This song was inspired by the fabulous Billy Preston. We have a friend Bryan who kindly recorded some fantastic vocals. 

We worked on the lyrics in Hawaii and the track in Gravesend, a match made in heaven :)

The song is about a woman so beautiful but so dangerous she can only be compared to a diamond.

Beautiful Diamond

This song was born on our friend Marco's stag-do in September 2007 whilst sailing around the Turkish coast in a gullet called "Holiday 5". The Turkish sun, sea and sand inspired us!

The song was started when Rich was playing some Latin flavoured guitar and Marco started ad-libbing words in Italian. The first verse was completed in seconds. Ben then added the English "No Ill never go home" bit which initially went at the end of the verses. 

Rich went away and came back with some nice chords and a melody for a chorus. They rearranged the English bit to go on the end and Marco then translated this to form the Italian words for the first half of the chorus.

Marco, Rich and Ben then came up with words to the second verse in English which were translated on the spot by Marco as they sailed across the ocean waves.

After a trip to Marmaris Rich came up with a Russian sounding middle 8 and some words were written the following day whilst the three boys sat on deck looking at the stars. This bit was later dropped but the original words were adapted to fit a new middle 8 written by Ben.

The third verse lyrics were written by the three boys (and again translated by Marco) at a band practice when they got back to England.
Ben and Rich then worked on an arrangement and the backing track was recorded

Well this is a song to try and recapture those times.

Day Friend

Lovely to See You

A collaboration with Emily O'Mahony, we sat at a piano in my office basement and bashed out a few ideas. I went away and once I'd come up with the intro the rest just followed!

We could be a bit more experimental with this one and got out the analogue synths! 

It's a song about the ultimate emotion - love.

No Catch

On the way to work Rich saw a fox sitting by the Met railway line and the phrase Urban Fox was consigned to the list of songs and ideas that Rich had. Years later, appropriately in The Mortimer pub, Rich and Sarah were going through this list for new song ideas and Urban Fox got an ooo! 

Songwriting started in earnest and situations and visions of this woman who is so amazing and deadly were talked about and what emotions she'd envoke. From that Sarah came up with these lines.... "Silent in her footsteps and deadly in her bite She's a heartbeat killer and I'm her prey tonight".

From that the song was born. The Heartbeat Killer is the hook and was written at the same time as the verse. The verse words came quite quickly and the bridge lyrics and melody were written a bit later. 

Ben came up with the "Sweet Talking" line and also had a middle 8 that fitted nicely into the song, the words came later on. 

The chorus was agony and after many song writing sessions it was decided to drop an extended melody and go to the simpler one.

Urban Fox

A song about a tumultuous relationship

The idea for this song came when Sarah was lying in bed listening to the XFM breakfast show.  She noticed that newsreader, Chris Smith, seemed to say that the weather would be "Sunshine and Showers" every day and thought that this was a really good metaphor for the ups and downs of life and relationships.

So the first lines were:
We are Sunshine and Showers
Missiles and Flowers



Whilst Rich was standing outside Watford police station (that's another story!) he came up with a melody for it but had to wait till he had the guitar to flesh out the chords. Rich and Sarah got together to make the words fit and came up with three verses quite quickly in a couple of sessions in studio 3. 

Rich showed it to Ben and he liked the song but thought the bridges were too repetitive and needed some work. He picked up a guitar and worked with Rich to flesh out a chord variation to spice things up. Later they worked on a middle bit together and also came up with the arrangement.

All in all it's a simple acoustic tune but is beautiful in its simplicity. G Bm C D+  with the augmented D providing the hook.

Missiles and Flowers

The conception of this crazy song was Rich playing two chords in Ben's basement over and over and thinking to himself this has some promise. Marco started singing a melody, and off the top of his head Ben added the lyric: "Making love to a beautiful lady"... the song was born! A version was recorded there and then.

We liked the idea that this beautiful lady is a minger in most men's eyes but to one particular  guy she's beautiful. So the song puts the ficticious girl down at every opportunity but always come back to how lovely she is!

Lyrically the song has changed a lot with most words being tweaked by Rich and Ben down various pubs. Ben came up with the Maserti line first it was a Beamer (BMW) and other sports cars.

Musically it has a been a tortuous road with Rich wanting to change the arrangement at every opportunity. But finally he got worn out and a concensus was reached!

Beautiful Lady

A song inspired by the Bond films. We'd love it to be chosen to be in the next Bond film but don't know how to go about it, can anyone help???

Silencer

We have been writing and recording original material for over ten years. It's just great fun to turn an idea on a guitar or piano into a pulse pounding track!
