CelloJoe was experimenting with a new Boss DD-7 Digital Delay pedal. The result inspired a Vince Giraldi style song that feels like falling snowflakes perfect for the winter season.

Cello Snow

"Wider Circles" is the newest album from Rising Appalachia. With influences of folk, soul, roots, world music, and poetry, the album showcases the alchemy of sibling harmonies paired with banjo and fiddle duets. The album was inspired by folk standards and traditional hymns, old mountain odes, and activist anthems that pull equally from the swampy sounds of the bayou, the twang of the Appalachian mountains, and the beat of a global rhythm.

I made a point of playing percussion on this manually. Once I got the rhythm part done, including bass and keys, I could hear the "Carol Nouvelet"...a traditional French Christmas carol. (Who knows why LOL) So that became the harp melody! Of course solos are on harp and koto

Tap the Flow 24 is an ongoing project where I, Ra.be, collaborate with musicians and videographers and in a 24 hour period we conceive of, create, and complete a song and video. 

100% of the proceeds from these projects go to Generosity.org. which is a non-profit / for purpose organization that implements sustainable water systems globally to those in greatest need.

The inspiration for this project came from recognizing that I have a bottomless resource of creativity as well as a wide creative community and together our collective resources can directly benefit our global community’s need for our most precious resource, water.

I strongly believe in extending our resources to the needs of others to thrive as a global community. This ongoing project is a positive step in this direction.

Populous is Andrea Mangia, a producer hailing from Lecce, a small city on the heel of Italy's boot. In 2003, he made his first jaunt into the music world with the album Quipo (via Morr Music). In 2005 he released Queue For Love, influenced by his reggae/hip-hop-infused surroundings (Lecce is known as Italy's Jamaica, as reggae and dancehall are extremely popular there) and in 2008 he released Drawn in Basic. Both albums were widely received by international critics, earning him a spot on the global music map. He became known for the way he seamlessly blends digital sounds with the analog warmth of soul/hip-hop/whatever else he's influenced by at the time.

Azulejos, his forthcoming release, has a South American tinge to it (and is even partly in Spanish). He moved to Lisbon, Portugal to start work on the album bringing with him only a laptop, a small MIDI keyboard, and a microphone. "Lisbon became both my studio and my muse," he says. He wandered the city collecting field recordings— from trams to people singing on street corners. He sifted through flea markets for records to use for sampling (exclusively Portuguese and South American). Populous describes Lisbon as a city 'halfway between South American soul and European modernity, African in some aspects, and dramatically melancholic." He channeled these poignant fusions into Azulejos, named for the typical tiled facades in Portugal— simultaneously bright and decaying. The album features collaborations with Nina Miranda of Smoke City and Ela Minus, among others. It's a love letter to Lisbon, and a dreamy quilt of sounds he both grew up with and heard for the first time during his influential stay in Portugal.

After releasing the World re-known "Arabadub" album in 2013, The Spy from Cairo returns with a deeper & more cosmic dance-floor sound. Coming back from numerous travels abroad with bigger club & festival performances, he switched from the traditional Oud to an electric Oud, which made things much easier traveling & live. The first two songs we get to hear from his forthcoming album in Autumn 2017 are here. "Sirens of the Nile" is a late night 110 BPM driving four to the floor groove mixed with live Oud, violin/ orchestra lines & echoing vocals. "Open Sesame" features the Oud over hypnotic electronic sounds & a crisp 90+ bpm boom bap beat. The cover was a photo taken from a previous tour in Egypt mixed with a photo of the burnt ambers of a late night festival around a fire.

Resilient - CASTANEA and Rising Appalachia

Rocking the West Coast World Music scene hard with its fusion of hip-hop/spoken word, ritual dance, and traditional World influences, Hamsa Lila earned its stripes as venerable force within the world music genre.   Since their inception in 2001 they've been recognized as a pioneer in world fusion, singing in multiple languages, alongside hypnotic polyrhythms led by  South African deep-pocket groove drummer Ian "Inkx" Herman (who’s backed Paul Simon, Sting, Hugh Masakela, Vusi Mahlasela), and mesmerizing vocals of the velvet voiced Nikila Badua and soulful Deja Solis, along with the core tribal resonance of MJ Greenmountain on male lead vocals and percussion. The bottom pulse of Hamsa Lila comes from the Gnawa bass like lute called the ‘sintir’, played by Vir McCoy.  This goat-gut stringed, camel-skinned ’bass’ has a penetratingly deep tone delivery that exemplifies Hamsa Lila’s unique sound.  When the repetition of trance melodies are added to this equation by another Moroccan, gut-stringed lute called the ‘Guimbri’, played by Beryl Jacobson, the group produces a sound that is wholly their own: a potent healing salve of electro-organic roots, hypno-grooves, and other-worldly melodies. And when embellished with the multi-instrumental talents of Evan Fraser (who is half of the hugely popular duo Dirtwire), on flutes, synths, ngoni, kalimbas, jawharps, and percussion, Hamsa Lila erupts in tidal wave of divine sounds and rhythms. The band became a sensation for their marathon "all night" performances at Burning Man and other popular West Coast festivals and events, and cemented a historic 2nd place on two national charts for their previous studio release "Gathering One.". Hamsa Lila has shared the stage with a number of renowned artists such as Karsh Kale, Michael Franti, Steve Kimmock, String Cheese Incident, Rasaki Aladokun ( King Sunny Ade), Tinariwen, and many others. Hamsa Lila’s new album, Aurora, is their latest studio recording, a collection of previously un-released studio gems.  The album will be fully released in August 2015.
