I leant upon a coppice gate,
When Frost was spectre-gray,
And Winter's dregs made desolate
The weakening eye of the day.
The tangled bine-stems scored the sky
Like strings of broken lyres,
And all mankind that haunted nigh
Had sought their household fires.

The land's sharp features seemed to me
The Century's corpse outleant,
Its crypt the cloudy canopy,
The wind its death-lament.
The ancient pulse of gem and birth
Was shrunken hard and dry,
And every spirit upon earth
Seemed fervourless as I.

I have feared the future's bite
I have fought the hero's fight 
Sometimes bailed
And Sometimes failed

I have faced the soul's dark night
But always trusted in the light
To carry me where wings must go
And trusted blinded in the flow 

To whisk me to the highest heights
So when you see this smile here 
A smirk that's pierced the eyes of fear
I couldn't fake it even if i tried

I have braved the fog of lies 
And all of us of live in truth 
And break free from the chains of pride
I stand here as living proof 

Of the magic that pervades a smile..
