Nazareth também acabaria por sistematizar a linguagem pianística brasileira, misturando de maneira única o pianismo romântico de Chopin e Liszt com os sons que vinham dos conjuntos de choro e dos batuques. Mais de 160 de suas obras foram editadas na década de 1920, e dezenas foram gravadas ainda durante a fase mecânica de discos 78-RPM. No entanto, seu grande legado ainda estava para ser assimilado. Agora, um novo capítulo marca a história de Nazareth, com a primeira gravação integral de sua obra pela pianista Maria Teresa Madeira. Esta é a primeira vez que a obra de um compositor brasileiro é gravada em sua totalidade, e nada mais justo que o escolhido seja Nazareth, que tem sido referência para diversas gerações de compositores e intérpretes brasileiros.

My next piece is the theme song from the movie Requiem for a dream. Now this piece has a pretty interesting history. So let me take you through it. Yes you’ve to learn something before you get to listen to my songs :P .

Requiem is generally used in the context of a Requiem Mass, meaning a Mass (Church Mass) for the dead.

Now going back in history, around 1791, there was a brilliant composer and musician by the name Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, or Mozart :P . The count Franz von Walsegg commissioned Mozart to create a Requiem through a lot of agents, supposedly to take the work and call it as his own among his audience. Mozart was already very sick at that time. Even with his sickness, the genius composed the first movement of the song called the Requiem aeternam before he passed away! The count was willing to pay only half the money since only part of the work was completed. Hence his Widow approached other composers to help her out in finishing Mozart’s work. Joseph von Eybler, Franz Xaver Süssmayr and Maximilian Stadler and many others helped complete the song that has hence been called Mozart’s Requiem in D Minor.

Zoning back to our times, Clint Mansell, a famous Music composer decided to take Mozart’s Requiem as an inspiration and compose a Requiem named Lux Aeterna. This was orchestrated in many places like the title song for Requiem for a dream and in Lord of the Rings and so on.

The song itself is incredible powerful. This might be because of the fact that Death in itself is a very powerful entity in human minds. The original song is orchestrated. I’ve tried to capture the orchestration and the song’s mood into a piano cover. Just as usual, be my guest and let me know how I’ve done.
