ona:v is a Polish-born DJ, producer and promoter with an ear for textural techno and dark electro. A scientist by day and a DJ by night, the Edinburgh-based artist is an integral figure in her locale, both as a DJ and through event curation.
Having built an extensive track collection for several years, ona:v debuted on Edinburgh’s club circuit in 2019, with bookings across the UK making up her diary since. On home turf, ona:v plays regular gigs in Scotland’s biggest venues, having supported Ben Klock, SLAM, Fjaak, Anne, Isabel Soto, Clouds, EKATA and many others. Outside of Scotland, she closed
for Clouds and Randomer at The Cause, played at London’s Risen and Necropolis Festivals and in Berlin’s Mensch-Meier and About Blank. 2022 saw her Polish debut, and in 2021/22 she streamed from Berlin’s HÖR Radio. More recently, for two years in a row, she headlined the basement stage curated by Sisu at Hidden Door — a prolific visual art and music festival in Edinburgh, and performed multiple times at Scotland’s biggest festival – Terminal V.

In 2020, ona:v founded EPiKA, and started promoting EPiKA’s bi-monthly party called CiRCLE in Edinburgh. Here, she creates a nurturing environment for beginner female and non-binary DJs playing more underground flavours of electronics, with focus on techno. She also garners a radio residency on London’s Threads Radio and is an internal member and a resident DJ with the Sisu crew. Production-wise, she has released techno and electro tracks
on multiple compilations and released her debut EP, Response to the Techno Crisis, on Diffuse Reality in 2022.

Exactly one year after my 2023 release entitled 'A Love Letter To Synthesis', I return with a collection of 15 new tracks that were produced between the middle of 2023 and early 2024.

This album, as with the last, relies heavily on the sounds of classic synthesizers/drum machines like Mono/Poly, MS-20, SH-101, Jupiter-8, Juno-106, SH-2, JX-8P, System 100, Juno 60, JX-3P, TB-303, Polysix, TR-606, OB-8, TR-808, ARP Odyssey, as well as some contemporary additions to my studio like Hydrasynth, System 8, MC-707, MicroFreak, Prophet Rev2, Novation Peak, Minilogue, SE-02, and Microkorg.

Dark Science Electro - Episode 767 - Cyborg Rhetoric guest mix

At the age of 10, Martin Matiske began mixing records and recording daily new mix tapes. Shortly thereafter, he met DJ Hell, who was astonished from the beginning about his interest in electronic music, records and mix tapes and invited him to interviews as well as DJ gigs, which is why he was allowed to play his first DJ set in 1999 at the Gigolo Night at Ultraschall in Munich. Performances at Union Move followed. At the turn of the millennium, inspired by acts like Kraftwerk and Jean Michel Jarre, Martin began producing his first tracks with a drum machine, a synthesizer and a computer. 

After a few years in 2002 at the age of 15, his first single "Stars & Galaxy" was released on International Deejay Gigolo Records, which earned him positive feedback from Laurent Garnier, Tiga and ultimately #1 in Dave Clarke's Top Ten. Afterwards he performed at the "Pukkelpop Festival" in Belgium as well as in clubs like "WMF" Berlin, "La Paloma" Barcelona and "Roxy" Prague, just to name a few. At this time Martin deals with complex composition techniques and harmonics to become a grounded musical base and created his alter ego „Blackploid“. 

His first EP „Inhaltsverzeichnis“ on Frustrated Funk in 2006 was played by Legowelt, Miss Kittin, Helena Hauff. Accompanying this followed other releases on Stilleben and Vivod UK. In March 2017, Martin was commissioned as a remix producer for DJ Hell single "I Want You" and the remix was very popular nationally and internationally. In 2019 Martin decided to exploit his potential as composer and producer and recorded a collection of tracks called „Robotic Theatre“. David Funk was very impressed by his work and „Robotic Theatre EP“ on Moustache Records was born, which was played by Helena Hauff. In the meanwhile his alter Ego Blackploid took over and Martin activated his project in 2020 again. 

Soon later in 2021 he released „Blackploid - Cosmic Traveler EP“ on Central Processing Unit after a 15 years break. Martin continued with his debut Modern Disco EP „Melodic Motion“ on Bordello A Parigi and a second Blackploid EP „Strange Stars“ on Central Processing Unit which was very often featured in Dave Clarke's White Noise radio show. The year 2021 ended with a Japanese styled Martin Matiske album called „からくり人形l“ on Femur Records, Spain. In 2022, a third Blackploid EP "Planetary Science" followed on CPU and "Martin Matiske - "Circle Of Enlightenment" on LDI Records appeared. The year 2023 has started with Blackploid's double album "Enter Universe". A twelve track dark cosmic Electro journey through space out on Central Processing Unit. More releases like his EP "Eternal Reality" on Nocta Numerica and Dimension Phantasy" on Bordello A Parigi followed.

Strange But Dance Music #169: Martin Matiske

Rotterdam based underground dance music DJ. Recording music since 2012 under alias Lenson, responsible for Rotterdam Electronix. 

Born and raised on the outskirts of Rotterdam, Lenson (real name: Len Ander Som) is one of the up and coming underground Techno artists hailing from Europe biggest harbour city. Inspired by his brothers cassette collection, Lenson started his musical exploration at an early age. His first outing through his and Stranger's Paling Trax label that surfaced in 2015 with raw overdrived tools for dark basements.

With his unique, acidic and uncompromising sound he hold down several intense club nights throughout the country. With playing a broad mixture of Chicago House and Detroit Techno, lots of raw acid 90's cuts, adding EBM, Wave, Electro and Industrial excursions in his musical vision he definitely doesn't have a linear perspective in his DJ sets. 

Nowadays he's a staff member at Clone Records where he also started his new label project Rotterdam Electronix and more recent the Fusion of Thought imprint to release pure dancefloor Techno cuts, with a wide array of new artists.
