"This is the cover of one of my favorite songs by one of my favorite artists, On The Beach by Neil Young. When i first heard that song, i felt like i could have or should have written it. The lyrics are so dark and beautiful, they relate to the slightly autistic part that a lot of artists are hiding and the artist condition in general. But I'm no Neil Young when it comes to song-writing, so instead of trying to write something as good, I decided to make a cover, twist that blues tune and turn it into something completely different and (much to my surprise) even darker, to the point where most people don't even recognize the original song." Ecstatic is proud to welcome new signing Mattheis to the label. Having already gained many fans for his work on the Clone affiliated Nous'Klaer label, Mattheis now graduates to his first full length, entitled 'Luminous Frames’. 

Expanding on the promise of his earlier work, his hallucinogenic arpeggio explorations call to mind the synth driven kosmiche sounds of late 70s and early 80s Germany, this Klaus Schulze, Cluster, Harald Grosskopf and Manuel Gottsching as well as contemporaries James Holden and Steve Moore. ‘Luminous Frames’  takes the listener on an ethereal drift through five masterfully constructed soundscapes of billowing synth drones and enveloping sequences.

B3 Mattheis - Volumetric Shadows

Ben Smith return with a raft of solo material after his debut release on NuNorthern Soul back in 2012. The Movedrill Projects saw Ben weave between rock and folk roots and this latest projects sees Ben push the folk sound he has become known and respected for. Renown as a multi instrumentalist, B.J. Smith is perhaps best known for his wonderful ‘Dedications to the Greats’ release which have seen him cover Mos Def, The Pharcyde and OutKast in his own unique style, Ben is also half of Balearic super duo, Smith & Mudd and one third of White Elephant with Jim and Chris from Crazy P.

This release forms part of a series of x3 12”s and will include mixes from Jonny Nash and A Man Called Adam.

Between Ship and Shore is a selection of folk songs that Ben has been crafting between his London home and summers spent in Cornwall and the results speak for themselves. One man and his guitar and his tales of time spent by the wonderful coastline of the South West of the UK and a hint of the Scottish Highlands.

JJ Cale, Terry Callier and John Martyn all influence and inspire Ben, and this is apparent in his subtle yet powerful tales.

'Hold On To It' utilises Ben's harmonious vocals and guitar playing skills to set the mood and building towards the main body of the track which unleashes a barrage of drums and percussion, the calm before the storm one might say, while the nagging vocal refrain of ‘Hold On To It’ urges the listener to do just that… 

'We Can Sail’ once again see’s Ben show his great vocal skills, this sublime relaxed outing washes around the listeners like the gentle waves lapping the shore. Ben adds brass stabs and harmonies that take this tracks soaring into the blue skies and adding plenty of space to allow it to soar and swirl like a gull on the sea breeze.

NuNorthern Soul welcomes Jonny Nash to the label as he takes on ‘Hold On To It’ and adds his unique and prestigious style to proceedings, creating an ambient journey of early morning fog bound coastlines with haunting guitar work that ebbs and flows like the tide and adding off kilter, muted vocals to create the erie ambience of solitude and calm.
For those that are not familiar with Jonny’s outputs, he is a musician and label owner and specialises in his unique guitar playing and sound. As one half of ‘Land of Light’ with Kyle Martin their debut album in 2012 reached critical acclaim. He has also released tracks on the Music From Memory label and collaborated with artists such as Tornado Wallace and he also runs his own imprint, Melody As Truth.

Given their longstanding working relationship with D.K - a producer whose music is rarely less than rush-inducing in its' melodic positivity - its little surprise Antinote are seduced by the Mind Lotion project from Australian producer Mic Newman aka Fantastic Man. Described as "a musical travel-log, consisting of eight pieces, written over two years, which are recollections of experiences, moments in time from trips," Altitude Attitudes is every bit as woozy, breezy, sun-kissed and blissful as you'd expect. Highlights are plentiful, from the synthesized panpipes and watery electronics of "Atmopsherica", and tropical, Balearic jazz-funk of "Hotel Breakfast", to the glistening, wide-eyed brilliance of "Rainbow Delta", and chiming, sunrise disco of "Astro Girl" premiered here.

In Belleville Renderings Part I, Heathered Pearls pays homage to one of his childhood homes in Michigan as well as Detroit techno icons The Belleville Three. A chamber of echoes and delays introduces the track, while a deep bass motif propels it forward, and bright synths float across the driving beat. The release marks his third creative collaboration with his sister Martyna for Ghostly. Previously working together on the artwork for HP’s recent LP Body Complex and the Koivu shirt lines for The Ghostly Store, the remaining parts of the Belleville project will be realized through upcoming music and a cement installation series.

“Sonar Kollekting Vol. 1”, releases in 2013, was actually the first true, official showcase of the by now over two decades operating Berlin label. Four years later we already get the chance to get once more a 360-degree view of Sonar Kollektiv's creative work. Four years during which quite a lot has happened apparently. No more than two artists of all the present collaborators on Vol.2 have been already featured on the first edition of “Sonar Kollekting”: Pete Josef and Stee Downes. “Sonar Kollekting Vol. 2” opens up an appetizing prospect on the label's near future when it comes to current and forthcoming releases. 
Just out, for example, is the marvellous electronics-folky album “Wiped Out” by Mooryc, off which the profound song “One Day” is featured here. A bit buoyant is the remix done by Erobique for Marlow's Backroom (on which you can hear Pete Josef). Next to other releases of the past months (The Black 80s, Mius und Tim Aminov), the listener is treated with ten exclusive tracks on this impressive collection. Talents like Dürerstuben already aroused attention with releases on Mutual Musik, Pampa Records und Luettje Luise and now make a lot of noise via Sonar Kollektiv. “Will E. & Gynt Her” implies a splendid feature of the twosome and the label. Together with London based singer Mark Borgazzi, Jad & The (formerly known as Jad & The Ladyboy) also contributes a song thus far unreleased (“Underwater”) to the 15 tracks strong compilation. From Harry Miller aka Glow In The Dark we get “Dark Stars”, a song not to be found on his just released debut “Future Bliss”. There is additional exclusive material in the form of the Nikitch remix of ComixXx' “Can U Feel?”, a subtle remix by ComixXx and Alex Barck for Matthew Halsall & The Gondwana Orchestra's “Into Forever”, a remix by Envee for Pete Josef's “The Travelling Song” (off his 2015 album “Colour”) and new tracks by Dutchman Geurt Kersjes aka Pitto (“Being”), the Italian Hip-hop production combo The Mixtapers (“Take Me Away”) and as well as ComixXx (“Synthesizer Journey”).

01 Matthew Halsall & The Gondwana Orchestra - Into Forever (Barck & ComixXx Remix) EXCLUSIVE

When Lali Puna released "Our Inventions" back in 2010, it was a long overdue return for the band; in fact, more than half a decade elapsed between the current LP and its predecessor. However, the Munich-based foursome now seems to want to make up for that, dropping this new EP in early 2012, at a point when "Our Inventions" is still lingering in the air. It's an afterburner of sorts, a remix addendum, an early continuation fittingly entitled "Silver Light".
Before singer Valerie Trebeljahr and her band mates officially hand over the original recordings, they set the tone with a beautifully rendered cover song: Lali Puna's take on Mort Garson's "I've Been Over The Rainbow", originally released on the LP "The Wozard Of Iz" (1968), a dark parody of the original "Wizard", sounds both forsaken and strangely welcoming as they venture deeper and deeper into the void that is to be found at the very core of this track. With this choice Lali Puna not only pay homage to the late-great moog master who died in 2008, but also present a song that works as a stunningly ruminative prelude to "Silver Light". 
It's obviously dark now, and the night is upon us: Cornelius' remix of "Hostile To Me" washes over the listener like a beautiful lullaby, it's soundscapes shimmering at sundown or night-fall, moments that do not sound hostile at all; instead, by combining multiple vocal parts Keigo Oyamada ultimately even manages to lift this track to almost ethereal heights – obviously something Lali Puna would never dare themselves. Since "Our Inventions" was heavily concerned with the downsides of progress, and posing questions about our constant need to stimulate growth, it's a logical step to present Trebeljahr's lyrics (such as "destroy this place") in this downshifted way. "Leave your signs on the wall", she sings, but these are signs that are no longer tangible; it's nothing but a last flicker in the darkness surrounding us. 
In Los Angeles it doesn't really get that dark; only in the hills, a place a certain Will Wiesenfeld aka Baths calls home. This Will not only has some amazing sideburns, but he's also the perfect guy to deliver a remix of a track like "Move On": Baths will always turn the original into something with a lot of oomph, even if it's just to get things moving in his hometown, the capital of heavy traffic and congestion. However, Baths and his whooshing, brainfeeding approach as a producer are not an unlikely choice for "Silver Light" – after all he's an artist hailing from the anticon. camp, and by now it's almost a tradition to collaborate with musicians from Munich or Weilheim. 
Finally, hailing from the same camp, there's Odd Nosdam, who just recently collaborated with Saroos: "Safe Tomorrow" done Nosdam style is another massive, broad expanse of sound; it's a new take with more internal pressure, even though ultimately, after more than six and a half minutes, he follows Trebeljahr's request to please "try to make it home by night". And it's true: Nighttime is certainly the best time of day to enjoy the silvery glow of this EP.
