Can relate to the lyrics so well, because our family always lived in public housing with affordable rents (I was born in one of those flats).  However, we had parents who were ahead of their time and we consequently never lived the kind of lives described here - but many of our neighbours did, so we saw and felt it every day.  I still live in public housing and what you describe happens here too...the stories I could tell!  Brilliant, finger-on-the-pulse song, Hans.  Keep shedding your light, my dear friend...

Open collaborations have always triggered me and they have to be cooked, when they are still hot. So when I listened to the new track of Marquis I knew immediately what I wanted to do and created a remix in a few hours. My approach is, that I have replaced the warm and organic sounding drum-loops with cold and sterile sounding synth-sounds. Though I am far from being a Hip hop-producer I tried to apply a polished and modern attitude. I painstakingly recreated the groove of the original loops, shifting sounds exactly to the same place. All sounds are made with the Zebra-synth and mixed in Logic. I used two raps and tried to create a smooth transition between them.

05, High Heels and Whiskey

This piece started again, as often is the case, with me experimenting on the organ. My daughter was intrigued with it when she heard me playing with it, and said it has film noir vibes, which influenced the rest of the composition as it gave me a target, a clear vision of where it was going.

Another version will come, hopefully soon, as a collaboration with some of my friends whom you may already be familiar with from other songs on my channel, which will replace some of the virtual instruments you will hear in this demo version with real instruments, namely, drums and bass, and probably add some additional surprises.

Releasing this version was not in my plans, but after hearing from three separate people that this version should not change, it is done, I have decided to release this one separately from the coming collaboration, so you can hear it exactly as I originally imagined it. Of course, I fully expect the collaboration will be better still, as it always is when bringing multiple talents together, instead of just me in an echo chamber.

A Study In Neon

Just addendum to 'Covers from my heart' (for it took me way longer than expected to find halfway suitable English rhymes after translating my German text template)

The background: I spent my childhood at a time when books were the main sources for imagination and dreams. One of favorites: The Sea-Wolf. I was mostly fascinated by the flashbacks recounting the meeting of two kids (Hump and Frisco Kid) from completely different social classes, in which each of their respective worlds exerted a special attraction on the other. 

I felt the same way. I didn't come from a wealthy family, but a middle-class home and I found everything that didn't conform to middle-class rules magical. I sought out the “wicked,” and failed miserably to be accepted there. 

Much later I realized how massively privileged my life was compared to their dreary and hopeless environment marked by poverty and violence, which has not changed to this day. Quit the opposite. And although I support an association that cares for them, I feel that I am utterly unable to make any difference at all.

This song is an attempt to imagine something impossible to imagine unless you are affected by it yourself. I interpreted my German words with the help of DeepL and used various pages to find rhymes, synonyms and idioms. The musical template was a piece I wrote 20 years ago as an instrumental that I turned into a blue grass version.

According to the literal translation of my German words, the song should be called "Scumland," but I didn't like that title at all. Ultimately, I chose “wasteland” because “waste” has so many more relevant layers of meaning in the context of the song.

hello everyone,
since i don't want to mix german and english songs on the same page, i have decided to create a separate page for my english songs. these are songs that i wrote over the past 40 years and let my guitar "sing." thanks to ai, i now have the opportunity to bring these songs to life with lyrics that, while perhaps creepily translated, are very close to my heart. i created the vocals based on my melody playbacks, lyrics, and endless prompts with suno 4.5+. thanks and hugs for listening!
