CAMP-LO´S LUCHINI is in my top 3 hiphop tracks ever made and has been done, sampled and reloaded some many times and what with me in such a summer edit mood these days I´ve just cut the classic dynasty original up - which kinda every forgets about. Basically adding "this is it whaaaaat " acca whenever I see fit.

Katakana edits vol.15 - VOODOOCUTS

The ever-reliable Katakana Edits crew returns, this time with a quartet of goodtime funk reworks from Berlin-based edit fiend Voodoocuts. James Brown gets a going over on "Voodoosexmachine", a flute-laden re-cut of the Godfather of Funk's best-known tune. Another familiar favourite - check the snaking sax line, as sampled by The 45 King on B-Boy classic "The 900 Number" - is given a dancefloor touch-up on "Blow Ya Woopie", while "Get Up Brother" turns a cover version of Bob Marley's "Get Up, Stand Up" into a deep, bassy, fluid house jam. Finally, there's more bumpin' rare funk business on the ludicrously bottom-heavy "Stay Excited".

We weren't too happy with the sound quality of the first vinyl run of SB-002 &amp; had the EP remastered before repressing at a better facility due to overwhelming demand. This remaster by legend No Sleep Nigel sounds so much better. Primal Scream go heads on with the Jungle Brothers (produced by Rae &amp; Christian) with Mark Rae himself playing it in his DJ sets with further support from Tom Middleton, Krafty Kuts, Fort Knox 5, DJ Food, Qdup Foundation & the Cuban Brothers. SB-002 was by far the biggest selling 12" on Soundly Beaten Records.

Blessed, with a bruising Otis Redding like voice the young Toots had been discovered singing in a barbershop in Trench Town. By 1973 Toots and The Maytals had their rabble-rousing bar-room reggae down to a fine art. Funky Kingston, recorded at the Dynamic Studios in Kingston for Warwick Lyn and on Island Records, ramps the soul side of their sound for one of the most uplifting reggae songs of all time. 
 
Toots and the Maytals became a favourite of rock critics in the 70s and listening to Funky Kingston, it is easy to understand why. The muscular rhythms, “Toots” Hibbert’s hoarse exhortations and his slightly surreal lyrics appealed to the spirit of a more fundamental age that rock music had lost.
