This version is a 2010 update of a track made years ago in a session with local funk legend, DJ Benz, a pair of 1200's and his amazing 7" vinyl box. Many thanks to Helmut at Legere Recordings and Mr Confuse for putting this out on good ole wax and thanks to DJ Benz for an enjoyable evening of rifling through the vintage vinyl.

Does your life need more cowbell and funky bass?  

Over the past decade there has been a strong connection between Washington DC and British Columbia, Canada. Both places have produced and nurtured some incredibly talented funkateers, many of whom have remixed Fort Knox Five over the years. It has been a dream of ours to collaborate with these artists on original tracks, pushing forward the future sound of funk to start a new era that we have dubbed "DC to BC." This release is the first of these collaborations, and the end result is nothing short of a boogie monster!  

Jinglin’ Janglin’ was written with the funk and glitch hop maestro K+lab, a New Zealander who now calls Vancouver, BC home. His funky keys, electro-basses and catchy clavinets ooze all over this track. With the addition of Rob Myers' Chic-inspired guitars and a super-stabby horn line, this track positively bounces along – a perfect hybrid of the K+Lab and FK5 styles! On top of all that, the tune features vocals from Hip-Hop royalty: Baby Bam of the Jungle Brothers, who has worked alongside De La Soul and A Tribe Called Quest going back to the 1980s. His vocals bubble all over the track, telling you to just "funk wit it" and jinglin and janglin the vibes straight to your feet! This tune is a modern funk-meets-glitch hop banger that has been torching dance floors and festivals all summer.  

We are super stoked to launch the DC to BC series with this wicked Captain K+lab collaboration. Already proven to do heavy duty on the dance floor, this release includes an instrumental mix for the DJs. The conclusion was reached for several reasons including the general direction of the electronic music scene, the "Funk" genre losing popularity and the fact that there are many funk themed DJ's and producers still abundant to keep the genre alive (check artists like The Basement Freaks, The Funk Hunters, DJ Slynk, Funkanomics, Stickybuds, Featurecast, A-Skillz, DJ Czech, DJ Dan, Ski Tour, Krafty Kuts, Trotter, etc.) and Flex moving onto other goals in life including the creation of a podcast which will be named "Understanding Perception". This podcast should be launched in 2024.

Biography:

FlexdeFunk (N Beers) completed his first full studio in 2004. Within a year he released "Just Arriving" a two-disc compilation created for private release only (released in July 2005).  The double-disc release included 28 tracks with genres ranging from House, Breaks to Trip Hop.

From there Flex decided to release singles on various international labels. In 2007 Flex signed to Gene Poole Music (Germany) for his 1st vinyl/mp3 release. It was welcomed into the breaks community, charting on over 4 breakbeat charts within a week.  Soon after FlexdeFunk signed onto Egypt's Purple Edge Records, the UK's New Era Recordings, Shiva Records, Moxi Records, & Canada's JG Records.

Since then Flex has focused on House production and recording the FlexdeFunk DJ Project. This is a massive project to celebrate '10 years of mixing' for FlexdeFunk. The project includes OVER 20 MIXES of hand-picked tracks that Flex has collected over the last 7 years....the best of the best. Genre's will include - Funky House, Electro, Breaks, Funk & Trip Hop/Downtempo blends. The FlexdeFunk will be completed by the fall of 2013 and sets posted (for free download) as they are recorded. FlexdeFunk also held a residency @ Yorkville's Famous "Y Not Lounge" every Saturday night for 2 years (10pm-3am, 2008 & 2009) with music ranging from Funk, Breaks, Funky House, Tech House, Electro and Tribal House.  It was always a packed venue and FlexdeFunk was able to change the average "top 40's music fan" into a House music fan by the end of each night.
