"Although Hantcha, whose voice is both deep and warm, sensual and bewitching and her guitar playing style percussive and colorful, was born in the early 80s in the Gironde (France), it was in Madagascar, where she spent her childhood, that she was to embark upon her singing career.
Her father, a pianist, introduced the whole household to the sounds of jazz orchestra, soul music and to such great singers as Nat King Cole. It was in 1998 that Hantcha went on to discover K’s Choices, a group which prompted her to start playing the guitar and composing her own songs.
Two years later, heading off to France for her studies meant that Hantcha had to leave her “red island” behind, a difficult separation that she learnt to build upon and come out even stronger. She seized this opportunity to construct her self-identity, plunging into her memories, yearnings and roots that she enriched with new musical encounters."
