For the ‘War on Silence’ remixes project @CrissyCriss has enlisted a varied range of producers into the mix for its track list. Whether that’s been long time drum & bass legends like TC, or more underground influencers like Neonlight or @Maluxdnb, there’s been an array of names who have inspired the original album and given it their own signatures. But for its next single, It Is Jev is offered the reins and it’s just as destructive as you might imagine. With the solo project taken from duo @PRFCTMandem which made a name for themselves alongside imprint Korsakov, they’ve slowly moved up the ranks, now It Is Jev hitting his debut with War on Silence through their reckoning of @CrissyCriss, @Maluxdnb and @ErbnDub’s ‘Airlock’. And for an introduction to the label, it’s a stunning debut. One which will be difficult to top.

A chaotic lead filled with speedily flitting drums takes you into its first drop as @ItIsJev begins his takeover of ‘Airlock’. Jumping between thumping breakdowns and even more destructive, revving slabs of bass, Jev pulls you down as he descend into madness. It Is Jev does what he is expert at and that’s cause devastation through their sonics. It’s easy to imagine how this track will impact any club space on detonation and that’s one reason why It Is Jev has become buy a on sight artist even within such a short space of time.

One part of Crissy’s job throughout the years has been to find the very best new artist breaking ground within the world of drum & bass. And from his Radio 1 show until now, he’s still doing the same although this time, it’s using his War on Silence imprint as the platform – still having as much impact as he’s had over the past decade.

"With the words of the Supreme Entity still ringing in their ears, Scruggs and Sonny Jim struggled to their feet and drew their revolvers from their holsters with practiced ease. Bewildered by their recent transposition to another realm of existence, the pair attempted to speak but found their words would make no purchase within the other’s ears as a vortex of furious natural energies whipped gale force winds beneath the brims of the pair’s 10-gallon hats. Looking to the center of this vortex, they saw that the entity before them had taken on a new and more familiar form. One of the entity’s arms now held a blade of expertly honed ironwood wrapped in thorned vines that tendriled their way along its body, whilst the other bore forth a set of scales imbalanced by a rotten, plagued, and roiling mass of blackened branch and bone alike.

“This world must return to balance,” came the voice of the supreme entity once more, distorted by the storm which raged around it. “My BURR OAK must be given reign to cleanse its lands of putrescence, to end the CRIMINAL ROMANCE which has brought such iniquity to this realm. Hear me now, for should you support its righteous crusade you shall be spared the indignity of being cleansed as a part of this decay.”

As termites through fallen wood, these words wriggled their way into the minds of Scruggs and Sonny Jim, drowning out the cacophonous sounds that had enveloped their eardrums in the presence of this fearsome foe. Wordlessly, the pair withdrew their aim from the entity, holstering their weapons and beginning to stride singlemindedly along a new path that now appeared before them as the glimmering light of a new dawn. Though they knew not how, the pair was certain that they would bring the BURR OAK into being once again, and in so doing enter into the creation of a new order balanced by the power of the natural world as embodied in its fearsome form."
BURR OAK debut CRIMINAL ROMANCE as the newest piece of the saga of their forthcoming album, delivering a cinematic slice of unrelenting Neurofunk that is set to convert even more of the EATBRAIN horde to the righteousness of their cause as the duo continues to reveal the prophetic implications of their chosen name in the leadup to their debut LP release.

Tom & Caroline aka V O E (Vision of Empire) are a drum & bass duo hailing from Adelaide, Australia, with a sound that combines huge cinematic atmospheres and distinct production with powerful and intoxicating vocals. 

From winning NCS’s Track & Build Competition in December 2020 to now, Tom and Caroline have been truly unstoppable. Since signing exclusively to Viper, the duo have released a slew of huge singles leading them to their breakthrough debut ‘Chemical EP’ , which featured 5 immense records & gained support from UKF, Radio 1, Triple J, and more. 

Now, V O E are further celebrating the lead track Chemical with a new remix EP. Turning the tables and hosting their own remix contest, V O E are bringing four new names to the spotlight: Skrybe, SYNTHETIC, TR Tactics, and Tadeleot, alongside their own VIP of the original. 

With over 100 entries, narrowing it down to just four winners was no easy feat – especially when each track brought such a different take on the original. 

Competition winner Skrybe wowed V O E with their apocalyptic re-imagining of “Chemical”, delivering a distinctively dark and ominous energy with a drop that might even catch you off guard, all while masterfully integrating Caroline’s original vocals into something brand new. 

SYNTHETIC extracted more of the rock n’ roll side of the track, expanding on it with raw guitar riffs and epic drums alongside vibrant synths and pads, once again totally transforming the original and taking the listener to an entirely different era. 

TR Tactics focused more on V O E’s neurofunk inklings with a full throttle, intricate powerhouse rendition of “Chemical” that is loaded with adrenaline and impressive technique. 

The fourth competition winner Tadeleot’s offering is a melodic and enchanting dreamscape, gently luring in the listener into a much more serene fantasy before switching it up at the halfway point with a fast-paced neon electronic drop that will surely get both fists and hearts pumping. 

Last but certainly not least, V O E have also graced listeners with their own take on the original with Chemical VIP, which has been doing damage on the event circuit both at home in Australia and abroad. 

An impressive EP from start to finish as well as a wholesome celebration of some of the scene’s future stars, V O E have delivered something truly special with this project. A full circle moment in some ways as they first rose to fame following a similar contest, V O E spent countless hours hand-picking these four tracks, each one a standout for different reasons, alongside their own VIP. Proving once more that they’re more than just a name to watch, be sure to keep all eyes on V O E in 2022.

A dark, mechanical vibe brings the “Capitalism” machine to life groaning on through evil atmospherics as beat awakens and the intensity skyrockets through the build. The tension is high as the drop flips into a high energy composition of crazy neurofunk madness with upbeat energy and ‘in your face’ attitude. Rabid beats run through the measures pounding relentlessly. The phrases flip intertwining synthesized melodies that spin and soar amidst the carnage as the bassline beats brutally beneath. The second drop brings an even bigger bang with a deadly delay and massive neck breaking energy with creative variety that just doesn’t quit. FractalOne delivers smart sound design and abundant animation balanced in creative composition and tonal range.

“Power” packs a potent punch as sinister synths stalk the build on rough and ridged highs with an eerie essence festering in the distance. A brisk blast kicks the rhythm into high gear with bubbling beats setting the pace in an anxious symphony of dynamic neurofunk design. The bassline cuts the composition halting the hunt as it resonates its own revenge slicing and dicing the final phase of the build as it bounces and slingshots through the drop. A quick vocal cuts sets it up slamming straight into another dimension with no holds barred. Rubbery basslines control the composition slamming and winding through the measures as the snare snaps furiously with colorful flavor shredding through the phrases with murderous magnificence. Electrifying effects emulate while the breaks flip and thrash the floor to bits. Full, thick, and intelligently designed with technical brilliance FractalOne’s “Power” is a forceful and ferocious to dominate the mix in the most savage way.

The remnants of the great battle lay strewn as shreds across the meadow, the multi-faceted carcass of a climatic moment of a conflict long forgotten. The remains of those who had fought for their respective worthless causes now overshadowed by the bleak visage of fate. Legends spoke of the battle as the only one known to have occured with no victor. Each warrior slain on one side was said to be repaid by the death of his equal on the other, as though the melee was arbitrated by some unnatural force. At the battle’s termination there remained none but the two great leaders of the factions, who continued their personal onslaught through the strength of their intense hatred alone. Amongst the corpses of their compatriots they dueled, equally matched in both skill and fury and finally, equally they fell, each slipping his opponent’s guard in the same instant, as both felt their sword plunge through the other’s heart. The place was twice cursed it was told, once by the unnatural force that had presided over the slaughter, and once by the slaughter itself. Unlike most of their kind, these legends held truth, for this field was the lair of the malevolent AGRESSOR. 

The being had lurked there from time immemorial, its existence a relic of a long forgotten age. Condemned to this waste for its timeless aggression, it had lingered on beyond the disappearance of its kind. Its hunger for anguish lured countless warriors to its meadow, their conflict a delectable feast for the spirit unseen. From each fallen fighter was riven its emotion, strengthening the being as it continued to feed. The magnitude of the battle had sated it for some time, and it would slumber again through multiple ages of man until that hunger arose once again… and when it did, the DEATH MEADOW would lure souls afresh.

AGRESSOR BUNX returns to the EATBRAIN label following the summer’s assault of the Massacre EP, with the release of the DEATH MEADOW EP. A five track EP featuring their characteristic subgenre spanning style, with DEATH MEADOW being a masterclass in the AGRESSOR BUNX sound. DEATH MEADOW’s ominous and cinematic atmosphere introduces the EP with grandeur alongside a rapid fire drumbeat, whilst the sinister saws of OFFENSIVE back its bassline fueled audio assault. PARARAMPAM provides a boisterous combo of sonics that amplify its rowdy atmosphere, and is followed by the roaring bass of STEP IT TO THE FRONT which struts with full funk fueled effect. TIME TO ROCK closes the EP with a fusion of styles, its neurofunk assault slowed to a heavy halftime pace before charging forwards to the finish. With DEATH MEADOW, AGRESSOR BUNX continue to exhibit their skills in creating their unique synthesis of disparate DNB sounds.
