For the 101st entry in the Honcho Podcast Series, we welcome @handmadeberlin! Handmade‘s love for vinyl is influenced by the late 90s club sound of Berlin, where you could find him dance the nights away. Behind the decks, he creates his own unique dancefloor oriented sound where he builds bridges between house music and techno.

A. About 7 years now... time flies...

Q. Tell us a little bit about this mix.
A. I wanted to make something different this time around and put together a mix that covers different shades of house and is still high energy :) There's 22 tracks in it for the year 2022 lol. I've been trying to focus more on channelling and being immersed in joy this year and I think this mix captures that vibe.

I recorded this mix in my bedroom early morning last Saturday, completely unplanned except for the first 2 tracks, and I knew I wanted to end with my forthcoming remix of NYC artist Prince of Queens, which is what you hear as the final track in the mix. I wanted to create the feeling of those closing morning sets I so love and miss, and it just so happened I had pulled an all nighter just before this so I hadn't gone to bed yet, and I watched the sun rise as I mixed. Because the environment so closely mimicked the conditions of a closing set, I feel that's why this came together so easily and smoothly. Lots of trancey bits, 90s techno, big melody, and wiggly breaks. I wanted to give the mix a constant driving feel so that the energy is strong because all my fav sunrise sets are dreamy while still being slamming. At the moment I'm working on a ton of remix projects, I just finished a collab EP with a Toronto artist named Dan Only that will come out next year, and during the Christmas holidays I will finish my next solo EP as well. This year is a struggle for everyone including me, and even though it is challenging to stay creative when there is a loss of motivation and hope for the future, staying busy and consistently making stuff is the only thing that gives me fulfilment and happiness.
