This is a song about self-reflection, recognition, metamorphosis. Our life is essentially a journey—we passed the mountains along the coastline and rode across one bridge and another.

"Blue Scar" is a Single of two songs in an attempt to capture the possible consequences of water-related environmental crises. The song “Thirst in the Waves”, which I recorded with World Music ensemble friends, depicts a world of dessert, and a world in which the only water source is the acid ocean. "Withering Land", as how it's titled, talks about rising sea level. It's also a song of nostalgia, with me knowing many seashore areas I love won't exist in a short time. I wish we hear the consequences now, rather than face them in the future.

"Thirst in the Waves" also came in with a Max-altered audio, which changes the partials and frequency of my singing with water consumption data. The louder or sharper the sound becomes, the more water consumption you hear on the spot. 

I also want to thank all my friends, classmates, teachers, and advisor who participated in this project or helped me along the way. I believe it's through this project, each one of us has delivered a bit more influence on this topic to the world.

Withering Land

Dialogue & Transcription:
刚刚开这个餐馆的时候很小，没有一个地方放桌子。
这里是一个窗子，窗子里面我搭了一块小板。
When I first opened the restaurant, it was very small and there was almost no space to put tables. There was a small window and I made a small board inside the window. 
然后再回过墙去，我再包了一块板。
一共三块板，可以坐八个人。人就坐在刚才那个灶台火炉旁边。
I went back and made two more boards, making three boards in total,
which could seat eight people. People sat next to the stove.
那么起先呢，没有人来吃，因为（位置）太偏僻了。
又不是在八大道上，是在那个小街上来的。流量也小。
At first, no one came because the location was too difficult to find.
It's not like on a boulevard, it was on a small street. There was no traffic.

好多人不敢相信这个东西，问我说：“喂！”
A lot of people didn't believe in the stuff I made and asked me:“Hey!”
我说：“说呀，什么事呀？”
I said: “What's up?”
“你这个新鲜吗？那么小的餐馆，你看人都没有进来的。”
"Is this place new? There's no one coming into this small restaurant."
我说：“我才开了几天，你会算命是吧？”
I said: "I just opened a few days ago. Do you tell fortunes?"

后来搬来这边的（店面），我那边（菜单）也是用这个封面，
用了西双版纳的傣族（元素）。云南风味，
（意思就是）要有民俗风味在里面，所以拿了这样的设计。
When I moved to the new  location, I kept the same cover design on my menu;
With the Dai ethnic elements from Xishuangbanna, Yunnan. 
The name of the restaurant is Yunnan Flavor Garden, 
meaning that the restaurant should make food with folk flavors.

我以前（餐厅名字）叫云南风味小吃，你可以看（这里写的）云南风味小吃。
I used to call it Yunnan Flavor Snacks (check out here on the menu)
那么来这边呢，我（新店的铺面）大一点了，我就改成了这个店名。
Right now, my place has become more spacious, and I changed the name. 
在云南风味这个（菜单）里面，
云南的风味是应有尽有，我是做的出来很多好吃的。
On the new menu, there is anything you can think of that is Yunnan flavors, 
but I can definitely make far more delicious dishes than what I currently have.

我只能把简单的做出来，每个工序太多了，我请不起那么多的人。
Now I can only make the simple ones cause the process involves too much work. 
And I can't afford to hire so many workers.
我做的凉拌木耳、凉拌海带，老外天天想找我点这个吃，问我为什么不做了。
I made cold black fungus salad and kelp salad before
People asked me about this every day and said why it disappeared from the menu.

我没有这个精力做啊。不是说，云南的一点一滴我们都要去做。
我不是打杂店，也不是杂货店。（我做的）这个东西，要有一定的价值。
So I said I don't have the energy to do it. It's not like
Everything from Yunnan I have to make it on the menu. 
This is not a random diner or a grocery store. 
The things I make have to create some value.
