Over the course of several months last summer, Beth Ann McDowell made a conscious decision to return to her roots in complex, rich lyrics, and giving more depth to her songwriting as she began to work on her album, “The Sim Is Real.”  The single is produced by R. Walt Vincent who has worked with some of indie’s greatest: Liz Phair, Pete Yorn, and Scarlett Johansson to name a few.  In tune with that came the natural gravitation toward recording an album in an organic way, with session musicians in a recording that captured the spirit of the moment all at once. Her first single off of the album, “Killers Of The Early Morning”, captures the sort of eerie dream-like vibe that permeates through the entire record.  With unquestionably dark lyrics, the song recollects the common experience most of us have lived: giving all that we have to give, and it is still not enough.

Cloud Studies return with their first remix – a reimagining of their debut single ‘Ghosts’ by enigmatic dreampop band from Lancing Michigan, Auburn Lull (Darla Records) - out 13 June

For Fans of: Shoegaze, Ambient, Slowdive, My Bloody Valentine, Beach House, AMP, loveliescrushing

Auburn Lull's remix of 'Ghosts' is the first release of any form from the dormant and reclusive Michiganders since their 2017 'Hypha' LP.  The end result is a complete dismantling and reimagining of the original track, with a purposeful drift from the source material, to create something spectral and entirely of its own. The focus lies in newly structured vocal fragments that shimmer and dance around trademark Auburn Lull guitars that slowly build into a luminous and mysterious groove.

London based Cloud Studies formed in 2024, as a means for Adam Cresswell and Martin J Langthorne to explore the sonic possibilities offered by the large arsenal of effects pedals that they had acquired. 

Where this remix is timed for Friday 13th, their debut the original version of ‘Ghosts’ was released to much acclaim for Halloween 2024. It immediately won the band devoted fans and received rave reviews from blogs describing their music a “a gorgeous sound that is widescreen in nature”  (We All Want Someone to shout for). The song also resonated on social media, quickly racking-up well over a million views on Instagram Reels and TikTok. Their follow-up single ‘Cloud Cartography’ fared as well, with a spotlight feature from leading industry service The Unsigned Guide who described the track as a “deliciously dark shoegaze affair”

Ghosts ‘Auburn Lull Remix premieres on 13 July on the world’s leading shoegaze station DKFM and Cloud Studies play their debut headline show on Friday 25th July at The Victoria in Birmingham.
