I’ve had it on repeat for a while, and it only gets better and better.
I am absolutely in love with the vocals which are beautifully mixed with an acid house groove that’s gonna keep me up for nights in a row for sure.

It’s been five years since we had Manuel Tur grace us with a solo release on Freerange.  In that time he and studio partner Adrian Hoffmann have been busy igniting dance floors with their side projects Clavis and Amberoom for labels such as Innervisions, Ovum, TAU and Freerange as well as remix and production work for artists like Andhim, André Hommen, Tensnake, Shit Robot, Tale Of Us, Ane Brun, Larse and Asobitai.

Manuel continues to push his sound forward on three original tracks which make up the Organic Reach EP.  On the lead track Astrakan he has crafted a sublime slice of deepness centred around a driving groove, building layers of chiming chords and a perfect bassline.  Sitting somewhere between Motorbass/Super Discount, DJ Q/early Nuphonic and Steve Reich this track looks set to cast it’s majestic spell on those whose idea of a banging tune isn’t confined to obligatory 8 bar kick drum dropouts and white noise risers!

On Hold Your Hand Manuel coming up with another masterpiece of deep, emotive, widescreen atmospherics with organic percussion, pulsing bass and jazz vocal refrain adding to the dramatic late-night mood.

Finally, Organic Reach closes the EP in a dark and heavier style with
experimental textures, time stretched fills and mutant sonic explorations making for what must be Manuel Tur’s most ‘techno’ production for Freerange to date.

isolée returns to Maeve with his second solo release following the success of 2017's "Mangroove EP". 

Spanning four tracks, "Candy Apple Red EP", shows different sides to the German artists signature micro sound. The A1, "mad marauder" leans on a big room feel while still possessing all the intricacies of production isolée has become known for over his distinguished career. The title track comes on the A2, "candy apple red", a jovial trot through a languid land of disco-house. 

The flip side starts with, "you are", a sub terrain deep house number with all the feels of an isolée cut. Rounding things off on the B2 is "Jordi", a darker trip into the dancefloor, perfect for the small hours.

Michael Klein makes a big impact once again on Cocoon recordings as this runaway train of an EP careers towards a sound system near you. But there’s more to these lessons in slamming techno than first meets the eye. The entire release is awesome in both scope and execution, with a level of sonic precision and controlled aggression that will dominate any dancefloor.

The riotous first cut Medusa jumps straight in with a cascading rush of energy. Searing synths, percolating acid and pounding beats jostle for position like the writhing knot of snakes referenced in the title. My Castle employs a glitchy, filtered intro that makes for a perfect mixing tool. The air is suddenly sucked out as thumping, subsonic 909s and scratchy textures melt the synapses, bringing on a rush of enormous proportions. Klein explores every variant to its logical conclusion, making sure there’s no doubt about who’s king of this castle.

Their Kingdom is an exercise in stuttering, looping techno for the purists. Clean and heavy definitely wins the race here as we’re enveloped in a cavernous breakdown and darkness falls.
Noises rounds things off in a melee of squawking mechanical bleeps and lethal, metallic percussion. A distant melody dares to enter the fray and like the legions of dancers transfixed by Klein‘s vision, it must surrender to the intensity or be swept aside.

Two decades. Twenty years. Twenty compilations. Over 400 tracks. Over two days of total playing time and countless coloured dots. If someone would have told us in 1999, when we put together TOTAL 1 that this would turn into one of the longest standing compilation series in techno world we would have laughed out loud. But here we are – in the year 2020 which will probably go down in history as the most difficult period ever for club culture. But we won’t stop doing what we’re doing. Music is our oxygen. We’ll dance together soon again.

The TOTAL series has always been like KOMPAKT’s yearbook and to say it with the late Frank Sinatra: It was a very good year. Our family of artists delivered a strong heterogeneous mix of uplifting sounds, from the lush reveries of ROBAG WRUHME and SOELA to the stark primetime bangers of MARC ROMBOY or ANNA & KITTIN and everything in between. Notable new entries to our crew are the Londoner KIWI with his wonderfully careless “Hello Echo” that picks up the camp disco vibes Justus Köhncke made a staple in our repertoire. Amsterdam’s DAVID DOUGLAS delivers an appetizer for a full course meal. His quirky pop approach sits comfortably between fellow dutchmen WEVAL’s abstract beats and AGENTS OF TIME’s opulent Italo Disco. YOTAM AVNI blends Detroit techno with new age jazz that reminisces the sound of ECM artists like Jan Garbarek or John Surman. The man with the hat, KÖLSCH also picks up jazzier notes in his very own big room style. Youngblood JONATHAN KASPAR appears twice, fortifying his status as one of the hottest beat smiths of our hometown Cologne. TOTAL wouldn’t be TOTAL without our permanent staff present in full force. As per tradition, KOMPAKT’s founding fathers, VOIGT & VOIGT, JÜRGEN PAAPE, JÖRG BURGER, MICHAEL MAYER as well as our Berlin outpost SASCHA FUNKE all deliver exclusive gems that also feature on Total 20’s double vinyl edition.

Bio:
Swedish artist Harald Björk started releasing music around 2006 as a youngster in Berlin. After his early releases on Traum Schallplatten he founded his own label Kranglan Broadcast as an output for own works and ADA, Axel Boman, Fairmont, Kate Wax, Suzanne Kraft and more. Harald’s main focus except studio experiments with various synthesizers has always been finding new ways to perform his atmospheric mix of ambient and techno live. In 2013 Harald joined RBMA New York. In 2015 he released a 12” EP plus a 7” single on Studio Barnhus followed by the album Kris- & Konflikthantering. The lead track Sabor Latino got heavy rotation on Ibiza and ended up on The Sound of the 17th Season by Sven Väth. Following year Harald debuted with his first own Cocoon release "Spring" on the Cocoon Compilation Q. 

Harald’s tracks has ended up in everything from DJ-sets by Carl Cox and Miss Kittin to appearances on mixes by Sven Väth, Four Tet, B.Traits and Toro y Moi as well as features in Radio1 Essentials by Roman Flügel and Damian Lazarus.
