As with the past couple of years CD releases however, the pre-order window for the CD component is just that. Because of all the supply chain issues and Covid hangover that are effecting all sorts of things at the moment, we are told NOT to expect to take delivery of the physical CDs themselves until late January, so we are expecting to be shipping them out to you from January 31st onwards.

That said, and as with the past two CD releases, quantities are VERY limited, so please order early to avoid disappointment and guarantee your copy. There won't be a re-press or scaling up of units ordered - the order is already placed and underway at a fixed limited number of limited copies.

The Hardcore Underground Show - Podcast 38 (Fracus & Darwin) - September 2022 #HUPODCAST38

As well as concentrating on the future of our music, a number of our recent album projects also have a 'Best Of' theme to them, and include some anthems of days gone by.

Where possible, we have always sought to improve the quality of these older tracks so that whilst produced in a different age, they can at least be made available in the best possible quality, using digital restoration and better, more modern mastering techniques and equipment.

As a little example of the work we've undertaken on such tracks recently, here is a well known 90's Hardcore anthem in Brisk & Trixxy's 'Eyeopener'.

The first half of this waveform is cut from the only previously available digital version of this track, the best example of which could be sourced from an unmixed Dreamscape compilation released many moons ago. You'll find that it's largely in mono (!) and that the mastering has been used to brighten the entire track to the point where digital distortion is evident in a lot of places. Frequency analysis (and also... your ears) will also reveal it to be sourced from an MP3 (high end roll off). 

The DAT (look it up if you're under 30) has been lost, and nobody knows exactly where it is, so imagine our glee when we finally tracked down a CDR which had been recorded directly from the original studio DAT, and contained the full length, stereo, un-mastered .wav.

This has now been professionally mastered by our friends at Purefocus.ca (the company we have used to master our album tracks and mixes since we started) and I think you'll agree the results speak for themselves. Who knew the percussion was ever panned on this track? Who knew about the synth layering? Clicks and pops are removed, annoying resonant frequencies removed, stereo imaging tools used, all as part of the mastering process to obtain the best possible results. It will never sound like it was produced in 2014, but it'll be the next best thing. 

Not to justify our delays on some recent projects, but this is the kind of work we undertake to insure that any album we release is indeed the best it can be, especially on these projects which contain some older music not produced in the modern age of mirrored drives and raised production standards.

*Even Soundcloud processes the audio playback of these waveforms slightly, the difference will be even more striking once you have the CD!

**AND we should say we've even been over generous to the 'original' version here, which has still been cleaned up and mastered for this album prior to the stereo / un-mastered .wav surfacing. Before we got hold of it, it sounded even worse!

'Music Blocks' was one of the standout tracks on Fracus & Darwin's album 'Point Of No Return', released in May. This is a DJ friendly version of the track with an added intro, and you'll find it was also mastered exclusively for DJ use rather than commercial release (i.e. it's louder, at the cost of a little dynamic range). It's a difficult track to pin down genre wise, but we hope you enjoy it!

The Hardcore Underground Show - Podcast 32 (Fracus & Darwin) - JANUARY 2021 #HUPODCAST32

Hardcore Underground as a brand was born in 2006 when we released our first compilation CD in the UK & Ireland. Further critically acclaimed compilations have followed, and have featured some of Hardcore's finest DJs showcasing exciting, high quality music from both new and established artists alike. In 2009 we became a record label in our own right, with both the third and fourth albums finding their way into mainstream stores on a new imprint, free from any commercial affiliation with anyone; a truly independent record label. We began releasing singles too (initially on 12” vinyl as well as digitally) through all major stores, and continued to host our unique and popular club nights.

We have continued to release high quality music in various formats, including many landmark releases for the genre, both through our own platform and through other major vendors. We remain as committed to (and as passionate about!) pushing things forward as we have ever been. We will always strive to innovate, and we’ll continue to be at the very forefront of releasing modern music as a self-contained, self sufficient media outlet.
