'In my HOUSE I am pleasantly disturbed’ - Miss Mana started as one of the first female dj’s in the early 90’s in the Netherlands and abroad. For the sixteenth output, Marguerite Records is glad to present a new compilation. The A side marks the eclectic label shadow: ‘Condizione Umana’ by Italian Massacres, the duo composed by Violet Poison and Davide Pestillo, opens the release with an enigmatic VHS-tinged composition, sci-fi b-movie soundtracks inspired. A2 ’Zezuru’, a giant cinematic drone wrapped in distorted percussion by LIES affiliated German Army followed up by ‘Drone Thugs & Harmonies’, a slow tempo psychedelic-dub from Dutch’s Galactic Funk owner Bertram. Closing up the first side is ‘Solar’, an authentic electro full speed track by the Croatian musician and sound engineer Zarkoff. ‘Lies in Disguise’ has an obscure synth bass sequence and textured vocals by KRI affiliated the duo Black Dot and opens up the second side, followed up by ‘Cage’, produced by the Italian New-Beat master Unconscious. After that, Florence's Synth-Punk band Zona Utopica Garantita maintains the old-school vein with ‘Lifetime Shock’. The release is closed by the firework-ish beats of ‘Tory Gloryhole’ by Autumns.

Limited edition of 50 professionally dubbed tapes.

Blending acid-strewn Electro with twisted Wave and vocal allure, as the title suggests, the track is a dark mysterious exploration of desire and temptation, imbued with feelings of anxiety and danger throughout, instigated by a dance-inducing foundation of obsessively resonant scattered snare beats along with the mechanical shakings of humming low ends, pierced by desolate, shivering icy synths and neurotic squelchy acid lines, through a gripping build-up layering of hot and cold, fast and slow, also heavy and thin frequencies, interpolated twice with calm bewitching female spoken words swathed in reverb, inviting others to join in the “Devil’s Dance” using magnetic persuasion.

When Rotterdam-based, UK-born DJ/producer Birds (real name Katie Wilkinson) began putting together the tracks for her debut album, she realised that there was an ongoing theme to the vocal lines; they all were related to either being at, leaving or returning to some form of ‘home’, most likely because she made the move from The UK to The Netherlands less than 6 months before and was still going through the traumatising visa process. This led her to think about the philosophical question of what exactly is home. The album explores these themes.
Genre wise, the album is a deep dive into Birds’ Bass, Breaks and Electro-inspired influences with the occasional signature fuzzy guitar hook reminiscent of her earlier dark-wave material peppered in.

If you know Dervaig is actually a small village in Scotland you begin to understand why the opening track of Sigward’s Balmung Beam EP sounds a bit eerie and dark. Long, long ago the Vikings came ashore at Dervaig (the word means ‘small inlet’ in Norwegian) but in the winter of 2019 Dutch producer Sigward uses it as a passage way to lead us into his new record.

Balmung Beam is Sjoerd Sigward’s second EP for SoHaSo, the follow up for the well received Black Mambo-single from 2014. In the meantime Sjoerd moved from Holland to Germany, where he now resides in Berlin. This step has provided him with a cinemascope view on dance music, as his new EP clearly illustrates.

Italo-esk flavors on the title track, meditative pulses on the beautiful Woodland Wells Inc and spacious Andy Stott-like tension on Jettison. DL/MS take Balmung Bean to new wave territories on their slumbering arpeggio-driven remix. You might just stick around in this small inlet.
